ThunderWolves block parade leads to 3-1 win over UCCS

PUEBLO, Colo. (Sept. 27, 2022) - The (RV) Colorado State University Pueblo volleyball team set a season-high in blocks and totaled 13.5 in the Pack's 3-1 (25-20, 25-13, 17-25, 25-14) victory over University of Colorado Colorado Springs on Tuesday at Massari Arena.

In a packed house for a "So Long Summer" theme, the ThunderWolves stretched their home win streak to six games and improve to a program best 13-2 overall and 6-1 in RMAC play.

The block parade came around early and often throughout the match for the ThunderWolves. Josey Nunn and Hannah Delor each tallied seven blocks assists and Jazzy Espinoza along with Payton Van Veen recorded five and four blocks, respectively.

Espinoza led the team with nine kills and Sadie Scoville added eight kills in the win.

Megan Mattingly totaled four service aces.

At setter, Sabrina King made 22 assists and Grace Hern added 18 helpers.

The ThunderWolves used the energy of the crowd to fight through a slow start in the first set before settling down and coming back from four points behind early to win the set. The Pack kept their foot on the gas pedal as they cruised to an 11-point victory in set two.

A setback in the third set allowed for the Mountain Lions to avoid the sweep and send the match to a fourth set.

In the fourth game, CSU Pueblo put away the Mountain Lions, going ahead 8-4.

Ahead 13-12, the ThunderWolves went on a six-point run and ended the set and match on a five-point scoring run and win by 11 points.

Next time on the court for CSU Pueblo (13-2, 6-1 RMAC) is a big matchup Friday versus Regis University. The Rangers enters the match on a nine-game win streak and are unbeaten (6-0) in conference play. First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m. inside Massari Arena.
