PUEBLO, Colo. (Sept. 2, 2022) - The Colorado State University Pueblo women's soccer team picked up its first win of the season, beating University of Bridgeport 2-1 behind a pair of second half goals, Friday at Art & Lorraine Gonzales Stadium.
For the match, CSU Pueblo received scores from
Sienna Gargano (So., Washington, Utah) and
Faith Meredith (Sr., Cheyenne, Wyo.).
University of Bridgeport scored early in the first half on a penalty kick during the 9th minute to go ahead 1-0.
In the first half, CSU Pueblo recorded a pair of shots and earned three corner kicks against one for UB.
The Knights pressured the ThunderWolves and the offense was able to breakaway on a couple of plays with some unlucky bounces going against the Pack.
Entering halftime, the game was delayed for over an hour before play resumed.
In the second half, the ThunderWolves changed up their game plan and were able to cause several turnovers at midfield for a few good looks at the net.
About twenty minutes into the second half, the Pack got possession and drove the ball down the left side of the pitch and a pass from
Katie Bean who found Gargano centered with the net and Gargano finished and scored her first collegiate goal and got the Pack on the board, tying the match at one apiece.
During the 80', CSU Pueblo again got possession at midfield and the ball was taken down the left side by
Paige Alford (Jr., Tonbridge, Kent, England) who served in the ball to Meredith who then toed the ball high and above the reach of the goalkeeper for the late game 2-1 lead.
With the lead and less than ten minutes left in regulation, the ThunderWolves defense did their part and continued the physical play and limited the chances by the Purple Knights.

Nicole Genis (Jr., San Jose, Costa Rica) finished with seven saves and one goal allowed, earning the win.
CSU Pueblo (1-2) will wrap its four-game homestand with another nonconference match against St. Edward's. Kickoff against the Hilltoppers is scheduled for 11 a.m. at Gonzales Stadium.
