DURANGO, Colo. (April 30, 2022) – The 2022 Colorado State University Pueblo women's lacrosse (3-13, 3-9 RMAC) season came to a close Saturday afternoon at Fort Lewis College (5-11, 5-7 RMAC) in a tightly contested 15-14 loss. The ThunderWolves came back from a 5-1 deficit, but ultimately fell to the Skyhawks by the narrow one-score margin.

After five scoreless minutes in the opening quarter, the Skyhawks drew first blood with a goal to take an early lead.Â
Caira Lessick soon tied things up with a shot in the eight-meter area off an assist fromÂ
Emily Eller. Fort Lewis to a 5-1 advantage and put the Pack in an early hole.

The Pack refused to be deterred and responded with a goal fromÂ
Maddie Miller and then another from Lessick. Lessick's goal at 1:16 was assisted byÂ
Ashley Hendricks and pulled the ThunderWolves back within two headed into the second quarter.

Jacqueline DeAndrea gained control off a ground ball pickup. Following the ground ball, Miller was able to maneuver her way into shooting position and squeeze off her second goal of the half.Â

Fort Lewis and the Pack soon exchanged goals. Hendricks fired off back-to-back scores from inside the circle and Fort Lewis answered with a goal of its own. Hendricks soon tied up the game at 8-8 to secure her sixth hat trick of the season. The three Hendricks goals were attained within three minutes and helped send the game to halftime with the game tied at 8-8.

After chipping their way back into contention, the ThunderWolves were finally able to gain their first lead with another Miller goal. Fort Lewis answered with a pair of scores, butÂ
Sedona Sargent was able to prevent a deadly run from the Skyhawks with her first goal of the afternoon early in the third quarter.

The Sargent goal did not discourage the Skyhawks enough though, as the hosts were able to rattle off two scores before the quarter expired.

Sargent netted another score, but the Skyhawks were able to swell their lead to 14-11 soon after. Scorer turned facilitator, Sargent dished a nice pass to Lessick and allowed the attacker to clinch her fifth hat trick of the season.

With 3:38 to go, the Pack trailed 15-12 following the Skyhawks' final goal of the day. CSU Pueblo tried to make one more final surge as time dwindled down. Sargent netted her third goal of the half off a free position attempt.

Eller got the Pack within one score with 22 seconds to go in the game. Eller then gained draw control but Fort Lewis forced a Pack turnover late and sealed the Pack's 15-14 road loss.Â

Lessick, Hendricks, Miller and Sargent each logged three goals apiece. Miller's hat trick was her first of her career.Â
Lindsey Locke led the Pack with five ground balls while Eller claimed six draw controls.

The heartbreaking road loss at Fort Lewis ultimately ended the CSU Pueblo women's lacrosse season. The Pack finish the 2022 season with a 3-13 record overall and 3-9 record in the RMAC.
