PUEBLO, Colo. (April 3, 2022) - The Colorado State University Pueblo softball team lost a pair of Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference games versus Black Hills State. The Pack dropped an 11-2 decision in the first game and a late-game comeback fell short for the ThunderWolves in a 7-6 defeat.
Three Pack players finished the day with three hits and as a team the ThunderWolves recorded 18 hits in the two games.
In game one, Black Hills erupted and put up seven runs in the third inning. The Pack scored their first run in their half of the third after
Odalis Jackson (Jr., Gilbert, Ariz.) hit a single down the right field line and would come around to score when
Isabel Griego (Sr., Loveland, Colo.) reached safely on an error on the infield.
The Pack added another run on a single up the middle by
Jill Bishop (Jr., Brighton, Colo.) in the fourth inning.
BHSU tacked on single runs in the fourth and sixth and put up two more runs in the seventh to take the 11-2 victory.
Starting pitcher
Taylor Puga (Sr., Pueblo, Colo.) was tabbed with the loss.
Taylor Strupp (Sr., San Tan Valley, Ariz.) and
Jacelynn Trujillo (So., Pueblo, Colo.) both made appearances in the circle.
In the series finale, the Yellow Jackets jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first inning, taking advantage of three walks and two hit batters in the inning.
CSU Pueblo scored one run in the bottom of the first on a infield single from Bishop.
The Pack added another run in the fourth when
Ashley Tosh (Fr., Fremont, Calif.) hit a sac fly out to center field.
Trailing 5-2 heading to the fifth, Black Hills would score single runs in the fifth and sixth inning to take a five-run lead going to the bottom of the seventh.
In the last at bat for the ThunderWolves, the offense was sparked and scored four runs on two hits. Back-to-back walks issued to
Hannah Hackney (Sr., Erie, Colo.) and
Delaney Barela (So., Pueblo, Colo.) resulted in two runs scoring.
Later in the inning Tosh smacked a two-run single down the left field line to get the tying run into scoring position. The game ended in the next at bat on a groundout to second base.
Pack starting pitcher
Sophia Lishner (So., Gilbert, Ariz.) was given the loss and drops to 4-7 on the year.
CSU Pueblo (14-15, 10-14 RMAC) goes on the road next week and will play a four-game series at Regis starting Saturday at noon.
