Two Scoreless Quarters Plague Pack in 10-6 Loss to Colorado Mesa

PUEBLO, Colo. (April 22, 2022) – The Colorado State University Pueblo men's lacrosse team gets two goals from Cameron Hancock and Trevor Thompson and played steady defense throughout but two scoreless quarters haunt the Pack in 10-6 loss to Colorado Mesa.
 
The Mavericks took control of the game early by outscoring the Pack 3-0 after the first quarter. CSU Pueblo managed five shots with four on goal but could not see the ball hit the back of the net.
 
The ThunderWolves chipped into the lead in the second quarter with back-to-back goals from Trevor Thompson (Sr., Sacramento, Calif.) and Cameron Hancock (Jr., Highlands Ranch, Colo.) but the Mavericks went right back up two goals to take a 4-2 lead with 5:33 on the clock.
 
Thompson later scored his second goal of the game that cut the lead back down to a goal but the Mavericks scored with 39 seconds before halftime to go into the locker room with a 5-3 advantage.
 
The Pack came out slow to start the third and were held scoreless again off one shot while Mesa managed four goals of their own to a 9-3 lead going in to the final quarter of play.
 
Aryan Krause (So., Aurora, Colo.) gave the Pack life in the fourth quarter with a goal and Hancock quickly followed with a goal of his own to cut the Maverick lead down to 9-5. The ThunderWolves kept the pressure on the Mavericks and tallied two more shot attempts before the Mavericks scored their tenth goal of the game to take a 10-5 lead with 3:21 left.
 
Logan Naves (So., Highlands Ranch, Colo.) scored the ThunderWolves final goal with 35 seconds on the clock as the Mavericks held on to take a 10-6 win.
 
The Mavericks out-shot the ThunderWolves 52-29 while CSU Pueblo tallied 23 saves to CMU's 9.
 
The ThunderWolves will return to action at the Art & Lorraine Gonzales Stadium on Sunday, April 24, against Westminster in their final home game of the 2022 season.
