Tosh walk-off homerun propels ThunderWolves in DH sweep of Highlands

PUEBLO, Colo. (April 15, 2022) - The Colorado State University Pueblo softball team won its opening two games of a four-game series against New Mexico Highlands, winning game one 5-2 and earning a 10-2 (5 inn.) victory in walk-off fashion Friday at Rawlings Sports Complex.

Pack freshman Ashley Tosh (Fremont, Calif.) hit her first career collegiate homerun and her first walk-off bomb in game two. In the series opener, Sophia Lishner (So., Gilbert, Ariz.) tossed a 2-hit gem to carry the Pack.

For the day, Tosh, Jill Bishop (Jr., Brighton, Colo.) and Katelynn Ralston (So., Colorado Springs, Colo.) each recorded three hits on the day. Tosh finished the day with three RBI.

Three other Pack players tallied at least two hits in the two games. On the base path, CSU Pueblo was a perfect 11-for-11 including three swipes for Raelynn Rogers (Fr., Surprise, Ariz.)

In game one, the ThunderWolves got on the board first during the second inning when Odalis Jackson (Jr., Gilbert, Ariz.) led off the inning with a single to left and ended up at second after the throw from the outfield. Jackson later stole third and scored on a single through the right side by Tosh.

NMHU capitalized on a Pack error in the third inning and scored two runs on a single to center field to take a 2-1 lead.

The score went unchanged until the fifth inning when CSU Pueblo scored two more runs on a single up the middle by Ralston.

In the home half of the sixth, the Pack extended the lead to three after two more runs crossed off back-to-back doubles from Tori Cordova (Fr., Pueblo West, Colo.) and Rogers.

In the circle, Lishner allowed just two hits and two unearned runs and she finished with four strikeouts and improves to 5-8 on the year.

In the nightcap, the Pack used a six-run third inning and broke the game wide open. In the frame, the Pack recorded six hits and was highlighted by a pair of two-run singles by Jackson and Tosh.

Isabel Griego (Sr., Loveland, Colo.) and Seaerra Fuentes Arellano (Jr., Ewa Beach, Hawai'i) both tallied one RBI in the inning.

The Cowgirls got on the board during their next at bat, scoring two runs on two hits.

In the next at bat for the ThunderWolves, Griego hit a one-out double and scored on a single from Tosh to give the Pack a five run cushion, 7-2.

Starting in the circle for the Pack, Ralston allowed two runs, both earned and scattered five hits in five innings of work.

In the bottom of the fifth, the first two batters reached base and set up Tosh to step up and hit a 2-1 count over the scoreboard in left field for her first dinger on the season and propelled the Pack to a 10-2 (5 inn.) win.

CSU Pueblo (16-19, 12-18 RMAC) will finish the series with the Cowgirls with another doubleheader scheduled Saturday at 11 a.m. at Rawlings Sports Complex.
