DENVER, Colo. (April 10, 2022) - The Colorado State University Pueblo softball team was swept in a four-game Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference series at Regis University after dropping two games on Sunday against the Rangers.
Regis scored an 8-0 (6 inn.) win in game one and held on and came away with a 15-14 victory in the series finale.
For the day,
Delaney Barela (So., Pueblo, Colo.),
Odalis Jackson (Jr., Gilbert, Ariz.) and
Katelynn Ralston (So., Colorado Springs, Colo.) tallied two hits apiece. Ralston finished the day with four RBI that included a three-run bomb in the first inning of game two.
In the first game, CSU Pueblo mustered three hits against Regis starting pitcher Kylie Harpman.
Starting pitcher
Taylor Strupp (Sr., San Tan Valley, Ariz.) was tagged with the loss and falls to 6-5 on the year. She finished with a line of 4.0 IP, six runs, four earned on seven hits and four strikeouts.
Jacelynn Trujillo (So., Pueblo, Colo.) came on in relief and finished with two runs allowed on one hit in one inning of work.
In the finale, the Pack offense jumped to an early lead from the start.
Following back-to-back singles by
Raelynn Rogers (Fr., Surprise, Ariz.) and
Isabel Griego (Sr., Loveland, Colo.) set up Ralston to step in and unleash a 3-run bomb to get the Pack on top early, 3-0.
Regis scored two runs of their own in their at bat and the Pack responded in the second with five runs scoring highlighted by a 3-run double from Barela to give the Pack an 8-2 cushion.
In the top half of the third,
Taylor Puga (Sr., Pueblo, Colo.) led off the inning with a solo shot combined with a 2-run single by Griego gave the Pack an 11-2 lead.
The Rangers scored five runs in their next at bat and capitalized on four walks in the inning.
In the fourth, CSU Pueblo tacked on another run on a fielder's choice groundout for a four run lead.
During the bottom of the fifth inning, Regis hit a two-run homerun and in the sixth took the lead after three runs crossed.
The Pack created traffic on the bases in their last at bat and Hackney hit her team-leading ninth homerun with one out to get the ThunderWolves within one run, 15-14.
A walk in the next at bat got the tying run on base and a flyout ended the game.
Pack starting pitcher
Sophia Lishner (So., Gilbert, Ariz.) lasted 5.1 innings and gave up 14 runs on 14 hits. Strupp, who came on in relief, was tagged with the loss after she gave up one run on three hits in 0.2 innings of work.
CSU Pueblo (14-19, 10-18 RMAC) returns home next week and plays host to New Mexico Highlands in a four-game series starting Friday at noon at Rawlings Sports Complex.
