KANSAS CITY, Mo. (March 4, 2022) – The Colorado State University Pueblo men's lacrosse team opened their 2022 campaign with a tough battle against Rockhurst on Friday afternoon. The ThunderWolves man down defense held the Hawks to 0-5 on the day, but fell 13-6.
The Eagles scored the first three goals of the opening quarter before
Aryan Krause (So., Aurora, Colo.) found
Logan Naves (So., Highlands Ranch, Colo.) who put the Pack on the scoreboard with his first goal of the season with 5:55 left in the first quarter. The ThunderWolves fended off three shot attempts from the Hawks before Krause tallied his second assist of the game and found
Cameron Hancock (Jr.) and made it 3-2 Hawks with 3:42 in the first.
The Hawks scored two goals in the second quarter while holding the Pack scoreless and went into halftime with a 5-2 advantage.
Rockhurst scored to open the third quarter but back-to-back goals from Naves and
Kaleb Mantei cut the Hawks lead down to 6-4 with 5:42 to play in the third. Rockhurst closed the quarter outscoring the Pack 2-1 and went in to the final quarter with an 8-5 advantage.
The Hawks turned up the shooting volume in the fourth quarter with 18 shots to the ThunderWolves 4 and pulled away midway through for a 13-6 win.
Naves and freshman
Dylan Johnson scored two goals each for the Pack while Krause assisted on five out of the six ThunderWolves goals.
Tyler Gardner (So., Erie, Colo.) went 50% on faceoffs with 11 ground balls.
The ThunderWolves return to action next Saturday at 10 a.m. against the University of Indianapolis.
