Pack Open Conference with 10-6 Loss to Westminster

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah. (March 27, 2022) – The Colorado State University Pueblo men's lacrosse team opened Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play with a tough 10-6 loss to Westminster.

The Griffins scored the first goal of the game before Cameron Hancock (Jr., Highlands Ranch, Colo.) tied the game with a goal at the eight-minute mark. The teams played nagging defense before the Griffins took a 2-1 lead with just under two minutes to play in the opening quarter.

The Griffins ramped up the defense and held the ThunderWolves scoreless in the second quarter while adding four goals to take a 6-1 lead at half.

Logan Naves (So., Highlands Ranch, Colo.) ended the drought for the Pack to open the third quarter but Westminster answered with two goals of their own to make it 8-2. Naves and Hancock gave the Pack momentum with two goals to end the quarter and went into the last quarter trailing 4-9.

Dylan Johnson (Fr., Simi Valley, Colo.) scored two goals within the first two minutes into the fourth quarter with Aryan Krause (So., Aurora, Colo.) picking up two of his assists but the Griffins stalled the ThunderWolves comeback at six while adding a goal to their lead to take a 10-6 victory.

The Griffins out-shot the Pack 39-29 and tallied 19 ground balls to the ThunderWolves 9. Hancock, Naves, and Johnson scored two goals each while Krause finished with a game-high five assists.

The ThunderWolves have traveled over 1700 miles since last Saturday where the team has a one-goal win, one-goal loss, a four-goal loss to the defending Peach Belt Conference champions, and a four-goal loss to the defending RMAC champs.

The ThunderWolves will play their next three of four games at home as the team will host Adams State at the Art & Lorraine Gonzales Stadium on Saturday, April 2nd at 2 p.m.
