Krause Scores Three as Pack Fall at Davenport, 11-10

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (March 22, 2022) – The Colorado State University Pueblo men's lacrosse team nearly pulled a four-goal comeback, but run out of time as the ThunderWolves come up short against Davenport, 11-10.
 
Davenport owned the first quarter where the Panthers jumped out to an early 4-0 lead. The ThunderWolves took advantage with a man-down for the Panthers as Trevor Thompson (Sr., Sacramento, Calif.) gave the Pack life with 10 seconds on the clock with the first goal of the game off a rebound and shot from CSU Pueblo's Cameron Hancock (Jr., Highlands Ranch, Colo.). The Panthers ended the first quarter with two goals to take a 6-1 lead after one.
 
The ThunderWolves were able to pick up the pressure against the Panthers defense early in the second as Hancock scored two goals for the Pack to cut the deficit down to 7-3 with nine minutes remaining. Logan Naves (So., Highlands Ranch, Colo.) nearly scored of a back-hand shot on the ThunderWolves ensuing possession that stopped the Pack attack but the ThunderWolves kept coming.
 
Stellar defense led to another ThunderWolves attack as Dylan Johnson (Fr., Simi Valley, Colo.) found Aryan Krause (So., Aurora, Colo.) cutting towards the goal and he was able to find the back of the net and bring the Pack within three goals.
 
The Panthers stopped the bleeding with a goal that made it 8-4, but back-to-back goals from the Pack while a man-up brought the ThunderWolves within two at half.
 
Krause cut the lead down to one before the Panthers quickly brought it back to two-goals to go into the final quarter.
 
The Panthers extended their lead with back-to-back goals to open the quarter before Johnson scored his only goal of the day to bring the Pack to within three.
 
After two missed shots from the Pack, Thompson was finally able to find the back of the net and cut the deficit down to two but the Panthers played strong defense in the final minutes of play to hold the Pack to one final goal from Naves with 30 seconds on the clock, before riding out an 11-10 win.
 
The ThunderWolves out-shot the Panthers 45-44 and scored on 4 of 11 man-up situations to the Panthers 1 of 11 while registering 20 saves to the Davenport 13.
 
Krause led the Pack with three goals off nine shots and two assists while Hancock and Thompson each scored two goals. Tyler Gardner (So., Erie, Colo.) and Garrett Breeling (Jr., Highlands Ranch, Colo.) led the way with 4 ground balls apiece while Ethan Ferrie (Jr., Littleton, Colo.) stayed strong in the goal with 20 saves off 44 shots faced.
 
The ThunderWolves will be back in action this weekend where the team is scheduled to take on the University of Montevallo on Friday, March 25th, at 7 p.m. and Westminster College on Sunday, March 27th, at noon.
