Pack split series at Fort Lewis

DURANGO, Colo. (March 20, 2022) - The Colorado State University Pueblo softball team

On the day, Isabel Griego (Sr., Loveland, Colo.) led the Pack offense and went 7-for-7 with two runs and four stolen bases.

In game one, Hannah Hackney (Sr., Erie, Colo.) hit her team-leading fifth homerun of the year, a 3-run shot in the seventh inning to break a 2-2 tied ball game and put the Pack ahead.

Hackney finished the game with four RBI, her first came in a two-run third inning for the Pack.

The ThunderWolves scored the first runs of the game on a sac flyout and an RBI-single from Taylor Puga (Sr., Pueblo, Colo.).

Fort Lewis evened the score in their half of the fourth on a double and single in the inning.

In the circle, Taylor Strupp (Sr., San Tan Valley, Ariz.) pitched a strong game as she went the distance and allowed two runs on five hits. She ended with three strikeouts and issued two walks and improves to 6-2 on the year.

In the series finale, Fort Lewis went ahead 1-0 in the first and the Pack responded in the top of the third with a single run on a RBI-single from Ashley Tosh (Fr., Fremont, Calif.).

FLC took a 3-1 lead in their next at bat after Pack starting pitcher Sophia Lishner (So., Gilbert, Ariz.) gave up a single and a walk with no outs. An outstanding defensive play by the ThunderWolves during the next at bat produced a double play on the infield.

The next two Skyhawks hitters smacked back-to-back doubles to go ahead.

The home team added to their lead in the fourth with two more runs on a two-run triple to right field. The Skyhawks hit into a double play that scored the third run of the frame and built a 6-1 lead.

Another run crossed in the bottom of the sixth by FLC for the six-run advantage.

Over the final three innings of offense, the Pack mustered one hit and settled for the series split in the 7-1 defeat.

Lishner was tabbed with the loss and falls to 2-5 on the year.

For the series, Griego finished with 12 hits, four runs and six stolen bases.

CSU Pueblo (12-9, 8-8 RMAC) stays on the road next week and travels for a four-game set at Colorado Christian starting Saturday at noon in Lakewood, Colo.
