PUEBLO, Colo. (March 13, 2022) – The Colorado State University Pueblo women's lacrosse team dropped its home opener to Rockhurst University Sunday afternoon to a score of 19-1. The Pack fall to 0-3 on the young season.
Â
The Hawks jumped on the ThunderWolves early, scoring a goal six minutes into the contest and soon piling on four more to their tally. The Pack were unable to score in the opening quarter and found themselves trailing 5-0 after the frame.
Â
CSU Pueblo continued to try and discourage the Rockhurst attack in the second quarter by forcing turnovers and preventing clean looks at the goal.
Â
To the dismay of the ThunderWolves, the Hawks continued to fight through the valiant efforts on the defensive line. Rockhurst logged four goals in under two minutes to put the Pack in a disheartening 9-0 deficit with 10:42 to go in the first half.Â
Â
Finally, the Pack were able to breakthrough with a goal of their own with time trickling down in the second.Â
Sedona Sargent was able to slide through the Hawks defense and fire off a shot that made it past the Rockhurst goalie. Sargent's goal trickled the deficit to 9-1 but it was unfortunately not enough to shift the flow of the contest.
Â
The Hawks rattled off two more goals before the break and put the ThunderWolves behind 11-1 at halftime.
Â
Sargent continued to win draw controls for the Pack, but the efforts were not enough to rally the troops. The Hawks slung in four more goals in the period and put the Pack in a deep 15-1 hole.
Â
The Pack continued to try and rally the troops in the fourth, but the Hawks defense was too much for the attacking efforts.
Â
Lindsey Locke, Baylee Mee, Sargent andÂ
Kendal Bruderer rattled off shots in the fourth quarter, but none were able to find the back of the net. The Pack eventually fell 19-1 to the Hawks and fell to 0-3 on the young season.
Â
Caira Lessick made two shots on goal and led the Pack with five ground balls. Sargent tallied the lone goal off four shots and was 11-18 on draw controls.Â
Â
CSU Pueblo looks to bounce back as the team heads to Regis University Wednesday at 4 p.m.Â
