PUEBLO, Colo. (March 12, 2022) - The Colorado State University Pueblo softball team dropped a pair of Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference games versus Metropolitan State University Denver. The Pack dropped a 13-4 decision in the series opener and lost 13-3 in the nightcap at Rawlings Sports Complex.
CSU Pueblo was led offensively by
Raelynn Rogers (Fr., Surprise, Ariz.) with four hits and two runs.
Delaney Barela (So., Pueblo, Colo.) and
Katelynn Ralston (So., Colorado Springs, Colo.) both tallied two hits, including each hitting solo homeruns in game two. It is the first career homerun for Barela.
In game one, MSU Denver scored six runs on just one hit in the first inning. Starting in the pitcher's circle, Ralston faced four batters and gave up three walks and a hit batter before her day ended.
Coming on in relief,
Jacelynn Trujillo (So., Pueblo, Colo.) gave up a three run double before escaping the inning.
In their first at bat, CSU Pueblo cut the deficit in half, plating three runs on five hits. The highlight of the inning came from Ralston, who defensively moved to first base, smacked a two-run double to left field to score the first runs for the Pack.
Later in the inning,
Hannah Hackney (Sr., Erie, Colo.) hit an RBI-single to right field to bring the score to 6-3.
MSU Denver scored three more runs in the third and the Pack next scored in the fifth, capitalizing on two defensive errors by the Roadrunners.
After a scoreless sixth by both teams, MSU Denver pushed four more runs across in the last inning.
In their last at bat, CSU Pueblo left two runners on base before a groundout ended the game at 13-4 in favor of MSU Denver.
In the nightcap, the ThunderWolves scored single runs in each of the middle innings including the solo shots by Ralston in the fourth and Barela in the fifth.
Starting in the circle,
Taylor Strupp (Sr., San Tan Valley, Ariz.) was tagged with the loss after going 5.2 innings and allowed ten runs, six earned on 10 hits.
Taylor Puga (Sr., Pueblo, Colo.) tossed 1.1 inning of relief and gave up three runs, one earned on two hits by MSU Denver.
CSU Pueblo (8-5, 5-5 RMAC) will finish the series against the Roadrunners on Sunday with another doubleheader scheduled to start at 11 a.m. at Rawlings Sports Complex.
