PUEBLO, Colo. (March 13, 2022) - The Colorado State University Pueblo softball team shutout MSU Denver 5-0 in the series finale and earned a split on Sunday after falling 4-2 in game one at Rawlings Sports Complex.
On the day, the trio of
Raelynn Rogers (Fr., Surprise, Ariz.),
Isabel Griego (Sr., Loveland, Colo.) and
Tori Cordova (Fr., Pueblo West, Colo.) each recorded three hits to lead the Pack.
For the series, Rogers totaled seven hits and added a triple.
In game one, CSU Pueblo scored the first run of the game in the third inning after scoring the run on small ball and aggressive base running.
MSU Denver jumped ahead 3-1 in their next at bat on four hits and one defensive error on the Pack.
The Roadrunners added another run on a solo shot before the ThunderWolves got back on offense in the sixth inning and scored a run on a RBI-double from
Hannah Hackney (Sr., Erie, Colo.).
Following a 1-2-3 seventh inning for the Roadrunners, the Pack returned to the dugout and got the winning run to the plate before a strikeout ended the game, 4-2 in favor of MSU Denver.
In the series finale, CSU Pueblo starting pitcher
Katelynn Ralston (So., Colorado Springs, Colo.) pitched a gem in the circle and helped her own cause at the plate. She limited the Roadrunners to three hits and allowed two walks and five strikeouts.
The scoring began in the third inning when Ralston smacked an RBI-double to put the Pack ahead 1-0.
After quickly getting back on offense, the ThunderWolves added more runs with a leadoff homerun from Hackney and a double from Cordova who would later come around to score on a triple down the left field line from Rogers and the Pack built a 3-0 lead.
In the fifth, the Pack offense manufactured two more runs on three hits to go ahead by five.
Ralston allowed single hits in the first two innings and one more in the seventh but was dominant throughout the game to seal the win and improve to 4-1 on the year.
CSU Pueblo (9-6, 6-6 RMAC) will play and host a rare midweek nonconference doubleheader Tuesday against Northern State. The twin bill against the Wolves is scheduled to start at 5 p.m. at Rawlings Sports Complex.
