PUEBLO, Colo. (February 27, 2022) - Colorado State University Pueblo softball swept both games of a Sunday doubleheader to close out the series against Colorado School of Mines, taking 3-of-4 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) series opener.
On the day,
Ashley Tosh (Fr., Fremont, Calif.) guided the Pack by going 4-for-7 at the plate along with two RBI and one run. Tosh hit her first career walk-off single in the series finale, to secure the series win.
Sophomore
Jocelyn Garcia (Security, Colo.) hit her first career homerun during the fifth inning in game two.
Game one recap
The ThunderWolves jumped ahead in the first inning and manufactured their first run on a sacrifice bunt by
Katelynn Ralston (So., Colorado Springs, Colo.) that scored leadoff hitter
Raelynn Rogers (Fr., Surprise, Ariz.).
Mines would take a 2-1 lead in their half of the third inning and CSU Pueblo tied the game at two apiece in the fourth inning during their at bat on a bunt single by
Delaney Barela (So., Pueblo, Colo.).
The Pack took a two-run lead in the fifth on a two-run single by Ralston and later in the frame, Tosh hit a single on the infield that scored Ralston.
In the pitcher's circle, Ralston went the distance and gave up five hits against two for the Pack. She allowed two runs, one earned and a pair of walks and four strikeouts.
Game two recap
CSU Pueblo and Mines both scored single runs through the first three innings of play. After CSU Pueblo allowed five runs in the fifth inning and the offense came alive over the last two frames.
The ThunderWolves responded with two runs in the home half of the fifth after
Jocelyn Garcia (So., Security, Colo.) slugged her first career homerun with the Pack.
The second walk-off in as many days occurred when the Pack, trailing 4-3 heading to the seventh inning, Ralston recorded yet another RBI single to tie the game. The next batter, Tosh helped the Pack to get back, came up and hit a beauty that landed just shy of the left centerfield fence.
CSU Pueblo (6-1, 3-1 RMAC) will go on the road for a four-game RMAC series at Chadron State starting Saturday in Chadron, Nebraska.
