PUEBLO, Colo. (March 4, 2022) - The Colorado State University Pueblo softball team dropped a pair of Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference games against Chadron State College Friday at Rawlings Sports Complex.
On the day,Â
Raelynn Rogers (Fr., Surprise, Ariz.) and
Isabel Griego (Sr., Loveland, Colo.), the 1-2 hitters in the lineup, both recorded three hits.
Playing as the designated home team in the series, Chadron State put up six runs in their first at bat. CSC tacked on another run in the third and built a 7-0 lead.
CSU Pueblo got on the board during the fourth, scoring two runs and taking advantage of a defensive error by the Eagles.
The ThunderWolves added a run in their last at bat in the seventh on a RBI-single by Griego.
Starting in the circle for the Pack,
Sophia Lishner (So., Gilbert, Ariz.) was tagged with the loss.
In the nightcap,
Jocelyn Garcia (So., Security, Colo.) belted a 3-run pinch hit homerun with one out in the seventh inning to keep CSU Pueblo alive after trailing 4-1 heading to the last inning.
To start the game, CSU Pueblo jumped ahead in the first inning after small ball and a bunt single on the infield manufactured the run.
In the middle innings the Pack managed two hits before going to the final frame trailing by three runs.
Down to their last chance on offense in the seventh,
Tori Britton (So., Litchfield Park, Ariz.) smacked a one-out single up the middle and the next batter
Katelynn Ralston (So., Colorado Springs, Colo.) pinch-hit and reached safely after getting hit with a pitch, bringing up Garcia to get subbed into the game and hit a no doubter over the right field wall.
After retiring the Eagles in order during the bottom of the seventh, CSU Pueblo went back on offense in the eighth and was retired in order.
Pack pitcher
Taylor Strupp (Sr., San Tan Valley, Ariz.) who started the game worked in the extra inning and gave up the winning run on a walk with the bases loaded as the Pack fell 5-4.
CSU Pueblo (6-3, 3-3 RMAC) and Chadron State will conclude their series with another twin bill on Saturday starting at 11 a.m. at Rawlings Sports Complex.
