ThunderWolves Soar to 72-57 Road Victory Over Regis

DENVER (Feb. 25, 2022) – The Colorado State University Pueblo women's basketball team (21-6, 17-4 RMAC) completed the season sweep over Regis University (11-17, 7-14 RMAC) Friday night off a 72-57 victorious effort. Kansas Watts logged a career-high five blocks while Ro Dominguez tallied a season-high 22 points to help life the ThunderWolves over the Rangers.
 
The first quarter saw a slow start for both teams as the score was just 7-5 at midway point of the period after the Pack originally burst to an early 7-0 lead. Ro Dominguez nailed a 3-point bucket with 2:45 to go in the opening quarter to give the Pack some offensive encouragement. 
 
Entering the second quarter ahead of the Rangers, 16-11 the Pack offense looked to go right at the Regis defense. Kansas Watts hit two layups followed by another Dominguez triple to start off the quarter on a 7-0 run.
 
The Pack extended the lead to 10 points before the Rangers were able to dwindle the advantage down to just four points with 1:22 to go in the half. JaNaiya Davis splashed a 3-pointer under a minute but was matched by three points from Regis to send the Pack into halftime ahead 31-27.
 
After the break, CSU Pueblo came out with a vengeance. Dominguez rattled home another 3-pointer, a layup and another triple to give the Pack an 8-0 run single-handedly in 1:08. The ThunderWolves were able to extend their lead to 13 points with 4:46 to go in the third following a pair of Jazzy Hughes free throws.
 
The Rangers were not able to cut Pack lead below 10 points as Torie Bass hit a 3-pointer at the third quarter buzzer to give the ThunderWolves a commanding 57-44 lead after the third frame.
 
The Pack offense did not relent in the fourth quarter. Four consecutive baskets from Watts, Amaya Lewis and Alisha Davis kicked the fourth quarter off with a 9-0 run. CSU Pueblo held the Rangers from scoring a field goal for the first 4:31 of the fourth.
 
CSU Pueblo took its largest lead of 22 points at the 4:18 mark following another Dominguez bucket. From there, the Pack coasted an traded a couple shots with the Rangers through the end of the game.
 
When the final horn sounded, the Pack secured the season sweep with a 72-57 win. 
 
Dominguez finished the game with a season-high 22 points off a 9-14 shooting from the field and tacked on four rebounds, three assists and steals. Watts recorded her first double-double of the season with 11 points, 10 rebounds, five blocks, four steals and three assists.
 
Alisha Davis logged 13 points on the night to go with her five rebounds. Hughes and Bass each finished with eight points to round out the scoring efforts for the ThunderWolves.
 
Following the strong road-win over Regis, the CSU Pueblo squad heads down the road to No. 20/23 Colorado School of Mines to close out its regular season Saturday night at 5 p.m. in Golden, Colo. With a win over Mines on Saturday, the Pack would clinch a share of the RMAC title and claim the number one overall seed in the RMAC Tournament.
