GOLDEN, Colo. (February 25th, 2022) – The Colorado State University Pueblo men's basketball team knocked down eight 3-pointers and got a season-high 17 points from
Noble Robinson (Fr., Lubbock, Texas) as the Pack walk out of Regis Field House with a 75-72 victory.
The ThunderWolves came out firing as Robinson knocked down two 3's early that gave the Pack a 16-11 lead with 12:18 left in the first half. A 13-9 run from the Rangers cut the lead down to one point before
Tristan Hurdle (Fr., Highlands Ranch, Colo.) knocked a deep ball of his own that sparked a 7-0 run for the Pack that gave them a 32-24 lead with five minutes to play in the half. The Rangers ended the half on a 13-7 run to cut the ThunderWolves lead down to 39-37 at halftime.
The Rangers took their first lead of the night just four minutes into the second half and extended their lead to as many as 3 points before back-to-back baskets from
Elijah Moleon (Jr., Killeen, Texas) and
Isaiah Thompson (Fr., Colorado Springs, Colo.) gave the ThunderWolves a 1-point advantage.
The Pack continued to dominate inside the paint as
De'Shaun Cooper (Fr., Poway, Calif.) scored two straight buckets in the paint before the Rangers tied the game at 55 with a 3-pointer.
Lian Ramiro (Fr., Aurora, Colo.) answered with a three of his own that gave the Pack the lead.
Cooper later came up with a steal and finished with a one-handed slam that gave the ThunderWolves a 6-point advantage that the Pack held onto for the next five minutes.
The Rangers cut the lead down to two points with 6:53 left on the clock but a 3-pointer from
Micah Lamberth (Fr., Colorado Springs, Colo.) sparked a 9-3 run that gave the Pack a 73-65 advantage with 2:25 left.
Two turnovers gave the Rangers life as they capitalized on the other end that cut the Pack lead down to four points. Ramiro later found Moleon on the block as he finished at the rim to give the ThunderWolves a 75-69 lead with 1:34 on the clock.
The Rangers missed a 3-pointer on the ensuing possession before having to foul Lamberth who went to the free-throw line for a one-and-one. Lamberth missed the front-end of the one-and-one and the Rangers answered with a 3-pointer that cut the ThunderWolves lead down to 75-72 with 43 seconds remaining.
Robinson had a great look coming out of a timeout but failed to connect as the Rangers came up with the rebound and had the ball with a chance to tie the game. Stellar defense from the Pack forced a rushed shot from Regis' Brian Dawson who couldn't connect and the ThunderWolves held on to a 75-72 win.
The ThunderWolves finished with four players in double-figures as Robinson led the team with 17 points, 5 assists, and 4 rebounds. Moleon added 15 points and 6 rebounds while Ramiro and Hurdle finished with 12 points apiece. Thompson finished the game with 8 points and a game-high 9 rebounds.
The ThunderWolves will be back in action tomorrow night against Colorado School of Mines with tip-off slated for 7 p.m. in Golden, Colo.
