ThunderWolves get past Hardrockers in double overtime

RAPID CITY, S.D. (December 16, 2022) - Colorado State University Pueblo women's basketball headed north on the road into a snowstorm for a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference game at South Dakota Mines and defeated the Hardrockers 77-75 in double-overtime Friday evening.

The ThunderWolves were led by JaNaiya Davis' double-double with 19 points, 10 rebounds and Charisse Fairley chipped in with 19 points and seven boards.

CSU Pueblo shot 41.8% from the field and knocked down five three-pointers in the contest.

Tomia Johnson scored 11 points on 4-of-11 shooting from the field.

The ThunderWolves trailed 27-25 at the break.

In the second half, CSU Pueblo came out in the third quarter and fought their way back into the game, scoring 22 points against 18 points by the Hardrockers.

Late in the fourth quarter, the Pack took a three-point lead with 8 seconds left in regulation and SD Mines was able to connect on a game-tying three as time expired to send the game into overtime.

In the first overtime, both teams exchanged points and with less than a minute left, the Hardrockers took a two-point lead for the Pack's final possession.

As time expired in the first overtime, Davis scored a layup to tie the game and send the game to a second overtime.

In overtime number two, CSU Pueblo broke a 73-73 tied game on another layup from Davis to give the Pack a two-point lead.

Over the final two minutes, the Pack defense stepped up in a big way and held the Hardrockers scoreless. A pair of free throws with four seconds left from Daeja Johnson put the game away.

As the buzzer sounded, SD Mines hit a layup to bring the final score to 77-75 in favor of the ThunderWolves.

CSU Pueblo (7-4, 4-1 RMAC) goes on holiday break before returning to the court at home Dec. 30 against Colorado Mesa.
