GOLDEN, Colo. (Oct. 13, 2022) - The No. 3 ranked Colorado State University Pueblo men's soccer team went on the road and defeated Colorado School of Mines 2-0, Thursday in Mines' Stermole Stadium.
With the win, the ThunderWolves, winners of five straight matches, now stand alone atop the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference standings.
The Pack received goals from
Aden O'Hara and
Caio Oliveira. Defensively, the ThunderWolves back line of
Shjon Andrews,
Lamar Bynum,
Gustavo Murtha and
Dylan Zavatini played their best game of the season and helped secure the clean sheet.
At the net,
Nils Roth made four acrobatic saves including two big blocks in the second half and helped the Pack get their eighth shutout of the season.
In the match, O'Hara found the back of the net quickly during the fourth minute after the ThunderWolves put the pressure on Mines defense.
After the goal, the play at midfield and defense from the ThunderWolves limited the Orediggers to have any real scoring threat.
At intermission, CSU Pueblo tallied seven shots against four by Mines.
In the second half, the teams battled and the physicality was turned up a notch on both sides.
During the 68th minute,
Matthew Coleman had possession and found Oliveira centered with the net and dished in a ball, allowing Oliveira to score the second goal of the match.
Over the last twenty minutes, CSU Pueblo faced a flurry of attempts at the net as Mines offense picked up the pace in an effort to get on the board.
CSU Pueblo (12-2-1, 6-0-1 RMAC) stays on the road and plays Sunday at Colorado Christian starting at 2:30 p.m. at CCU's Trailblazer Stadium.
