ThunderWolves Complete Season Sweep Over Adams State With 86-26 Win

ALAMOSA, Colo. (Jan. 4, 2022) – After the ThunderWolves women's basketball team (9-3, 5-1) shut out Adams State University (4-7, 2-4) in the fourth quarter of Tuesday's contest, Colorado State University Pueblo clinched a dominant 86-26 victory over the Grizzlies to kick-off the new year of 2022. The 60-point margin of victory is the largest for the ThunderWolves since before the 2007 season.

The first quarter set the tone early for the remainder of the game as the Pack jumped to an early 10-4 lead four minutes into the contest. Tomia Johnson then capitalized on the early lead and helped propel the ThunderWolves to a 10-0 run which was eventually capped off by a Jazzy Hughes fastbreak layup.

After the strong 22-12 opening quarter, 3-pointers from JaNaiya Davis and Ro Dominguez helped catapult the Pack to another strong 16-0 run to start the second frame. The Grizzlies were able to muster five points in the quarter but another 8-0 burst from CSU Pueblo gave the team a 48-17 lead headed into halftime.

Adams State tried to make a surge back as the two teams came out of the locker room, but the Pack shooters were too much for the hosts. Morgan Dial silenced the modest 6-0 run with a 3-pointer of her own.

The third quarter saw the most even play of the night after the Pack outscored the Grizzlies by four points following a 10-2 run to end the frame. CSU Pueblo entered the final quarter with a commanding 61-26 lead.

The Pack put the game away in a convincing fashion in the final quarter after they were able to show domination on both offense and defense. In just three minutes, Alisha Davis and Hughes were able to help the Pack to an 11-0 run and force an Adams State timeout.

Back-to-back 3-pointers from Dominguez and Johnson kept the ball rolling for the Pack out of the timeout and helped ice the game. Eventually, the final horn sounded with the ThunderWolves on top 86-26 after the Pack were able to prevent the Grizzlies from scoring in the fourth.

CSU Pueblo nabbed 15 total steals on the night while the team forced 26 turnovers. On top of the dominant defensive play, the Pack shot 56.1% from the floor.

Alisha Davis showed out in the first game of 2022 and dropped a season-high 24 points off an impressive 10-15 shooting from the field. The junior was able to pull down eight rebounds and also made two blocks.
