Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Pack men's soccer wins defensive battle 1-0 over MSU Billings

PUEBLO, Colo. (September 4, 2021) - Colorado State University Pueblo men's soccer battled through high temperatures on the pitch Saturday, beating Montana State University Billings 1-0 behind a second half goal from Josua Hall (So., Baiersbronn, Germany) in the 80th minute to propel the victory.

Hall connected on the goal after receiving a pass from Miguel De Leon Jr. (Sr., Deltona, Fla.) and striking a one-timer through multiple defenders and hitting the back of the net to put the Pack ahead with less than ten minutes left in regulation.

A defensive battle from the onset, the ThunderWolves were able to limit the Yellow Jackets to minimal scoring chances and seven total shots in the match.

"Quality defensive effort from the troops today. We competed and showed tactical discipline to beat a very good side today and earned our first clean sheet of the season," said Pack Head Coach Oliver Twelvetrees. "We know if we can defend with the same mentality we will be a tough team to beat."

Through the first half, CSU Pueblo recorded six shots against just one from MSU Billings.

For the game, four members of the Pack fired a shot including two landing on frame, one by Hall and the other off the foot of Vinzent Zingel (So., Aachen, Germany).

Following a turnover beyond midfield with ten minutes left on the clock, the Pack drove the ball down field, setting up Hall to break the scoreless affair.

"Another great goal from Josua plus some impressive performances all thru the squad," Twelvetrees said.

Pack goalkeeper Garret Wild (Jr., Brownsville, Tex.) played strong and defended against three shots by MSUB and earned his first shutout of the season.

CSU Pueblo (2-0-0) finishes its homestand Sunday with a match against Newman. Kickoff is scheduled for 2 p.m. at Art & Lorraine Gonzales Stadium.
