Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men's soccer claims 1-0 double overtime win versus Regis

PUEBLO, Colo. (September 26, 2021) - The Colorado State University Pueblo men's soccer team won its fourth straight match at the friendly confines of Art & Lorraine Gonzales Stadium on Sunday as they defeated Regis University 1-0 in double overtime.

Freshman Lamar Bynum (Albuquerque, NM) scored his second career goal in the 105th minute to carry the ThunderWolves in the nonconference battle.

In the match, CSU Pueblo outshot Regis 17-6 and put up six corners against four by the Rangers.

Bynum led all players with three shots and four other players recorded two shots.

The game was a battle throughout the match and the Pack created numerous scoring chances, putting up five shots in the first half and followed up with six more shots in the second period.

In the first overtime of the year for the ThunderWolves, they fired three shots in the extra time and caused the Rangers goalkeeper to make four saves in that time and seven in the match.

Midway through the second and final overtime, the ThunderWolves earned a corner kick and the ball was served in to the front of the box and after a scurry in front of the net, Bynum took a pass from Josua Hall (So., Baiersbronn, Germany) and headed the ball in for the game winner.

At goalkeeper, the ThunderWolves' Garret Wild (Jr., Brownsville, Tex.) played over 55 minutes and made one save. Coming on in relief in the second half, Joseph Banul (Jr., Richardson, Tex.) played the remaining minutes at the net and made one save.

"Fantastic effort from the lads again today. To finish our nonconference schedule with a 100% record at home and at 7-1 is a great achievement," said Pack Head Coach Oliver Twelvetrees. "Defensively we were strong again with all of our defenders contributing to another clean sheet."

Twelvetrees added, "Really happy for Lamar to get the game winning goal as he has made an impressive start to his career here. We are excited to start conference play on Friday when we know the stakes are going to be higher."

CSU Pueblo (7-1-0) remains home next week and will host Colorado Mesa, Friday at 4 p.m. and will conclude the homestand on Sunday versus Westminster, kickoff is set for 2:30 p.m., both at Gonzales Stadium.
