No. 19 CSU Pueblo falls 1-0 against Colorado Mesa

PUEBLO, Colo. (October 1, 2021) - No. 19 Colorado State University Pueblo men's soccer team dropped its Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference opener 1-0 against Colorado Mesa Friday at Art & Lorraine Gonzales Stadium.

The Pack out shot Mesa 13-8 and were led offensively by Miguel De Leon Jr. (Sr., Deltona, Fla.) with 3 shots and two landing on goal.

Four other Pack players recorded two shots.

Through the first half, the teams battled to a scoreless tie and CSU Pueblo led 7-5 in shots.

CSU Pueblo earned two corners against one for the Mavericks.

In the final period, the ThunderWolves doubled up the Mavericks on shots and fired six in the half.

CMU scored the lone goal of the match in the 66th minute after a cross from the right side in to the box found an open Maverick who finished with a shot low and away for the goal.

Pack goalkeeper Garret Wild (Jr., Brownsville, Tex.) made five saves on the night.

"Mesa are a good team and it was a 1 goal game. We were not able to execute consistently at the level we needed to beat them tonight," said Pack Head Coach Oliver Twelvetrees. "We will move forward and do everything we can to put in a top performance Sunday."

CSU Pueblo (7-2-0, 0-1-0 RMAC) will return to action on Sunday and host Westminster College following the women's game. Kickoff is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. at Gonzales Stadium.
