PUEBLO, Colo. (September 24, 2021) - For the first time since the 2002 season, the Colorado State University Pueblo men's soccer team went into Colorado School of Mines' Stermole Stadium and came away with a 2-1 win in a nonconference match Friday night.
The ThunderWolves received scores from
Vinzent Zingel (So., Aachen, Germany) in the 44' and
Josua Hall (So., Baiersbronn, Germany) moments in to the second period in the games' 50th minute.
In front of a rucous crowd on the road, the Pack was able to keep their composure and in the first half tallied four shots. The ThunderWolves were awarded a penalty kick in the 44th minute, allowing Zingel to calmly step in and convert for a 1-0 lead going into break.
At halftime, CSU Pueblo earned two corner kicks and out shot the Orediggers by a 4-3 clip.
In the second half, CSU Pueblo's defense maintained its hold against a strong CSM lineup.
In the 50th minute, Hall received the ball off a breakaway from
Louis Kearns (So., Liverpool, England, UK) who crossed in a pass and Hall was able to finish for his third goal of the year.
Down 2-0 for majority of the second half, the Orediggers offense fired off 17 shots in the half and was awarded and converted a PK goal in the 73' and cut into the Pack lead 2-1.
Holding the one goal lead, the ThunderWolves midfielders stepped up in a big way and was able to control the ball and keep the Orediggers away from the attacking side.
Over the last ten minutes, the Pack defense and Co. was able to fend off a flurry of CSM shots and Pack goalkeeper
Garret Wild (Jr., Brownsville, Tex.) made five saves against 20 shots and six landing on goal by CSM.

Louis Kearns was fantastic tonight. Winning the pen and getting the assist for the second goal. Really happy for him after his hard work for the program."
He added, "We know we have many more challenges ahead and we will be ready."
CSU Pueblo (6-1-0) will return home Sunday for a rematch against a Regis University squad that eliminated the Pack from the RMAC Tournament during the spring season. Kickoff against the Rangers is set for 1 p.m. at Art & Lorraine Gonzales Stadium.
