Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

ThunderWolves earn another clean sheet in 3-0 nonconference win over MSU Denver

PUEBLO, Colo. (September 16, 2021) - The Colorado State University Pueblo men's soccer team was back at the friendly confines of Art & Lorraine Gonzales Stadium and defeated MSU Denver 3-0 in a nonconference match.

The Pack received goals from Jan Gruhn (Gr., Schleiden, Germany), Nazar Deputat (Sr., Ocala, Fla.) and Vinzent Zingel (So., Aachen, Germany). Zingel also added an assist on the night.

CSU Pueblo earned its fourth clean sheet of the year and the suffocating Pack defense allowed only two shots to MSU Denver.

Offensively, the ThunderWolves were led by Deputat and Zingel with three shots each. As a center back, Gruhn recorded two shots on goal in full minutes of action.

The Pack got on the board first as they converted on one of seven corner kicks of the half and in a scramble in front of the net, Miguel De Leon Jr. (Sr., Deltona, Fla.) flicked a pass to the top of the box to Gruhn who scored a one timer for his first score with the ThunderWolves.

Holding the one goal lead at intermission, CSU Pueblo made eight shots to go with seven corners.

In the 59', Deputat found the back of the net, taking a pass from Zingel inside the box and booted a left footed shot for the score and a two goal Pack lead.

Just over eight minutes later, Zingel and Co. again had possession deep in Roadrunners terrioty and drew a foul while inside the box and was awarded a penalty kick. Zingel converted the shot and now has three goals on the season.

Pack goalkeeper Garret Wild (Jr., Brownsville, Tex.) was able to stand tall for a lot of the match and made two saves on both MSU Denver attempts.

"Top performance from all the lads tonight," said Pack Head Coach Oliver Twelvetrees. "We were excellent in all areas of the game. Brilliant for Jan to score a special first goal for us as he has been quality all season."

"We look forward to keep improving and achieving our goals together."

CSU Pueblo (5-1-0) will return to action on Sept. 24 and play at Colorado School of Mines at 7:30 p.m. at Mines' Stermole Stadium. The ThunderWolves return to Gonzales Stadium on Sunday, Sept. 26 and will play Regis in a 1 p.m. matinee. Both matches next week are nonconference games.
