Pack women's soccer drops 5-1 decision versus No. 15 Emporia State

PUEBLO, Colo. (September 10, 2021) - Colorado State Univeristy Pueblo women's soccer dropped its home opener Friday 5-1 against No. 15 Emporia State. The ThunderWolves' Porsche Nieto (Jr., Thornton, Colo.) netted the lone goal in the effort at Art & Lorraine Gonzales Stadium.

Facing their second straight ranked opponent, the ThunderWolves battled and kept pace with the quick ball movement put out by Emporia.

In the first half, CSU Pueblo managed three shots against nine for the Hornets as the match went into the break scoreless.

The Pack earned one corner kick try and landed one shot on goal.

For the match, CSU Pueblo was paced by Cara Siegel (Sr., Pueblo, Colo.) who finished with a team high three shots including one on frame.

ESU scored the first goal of the match in the 49' and doubled the lead to 2-0 in the 63' before the Pack responded less than a minute later on the Nieto goal. Litzy Serna (Sr., West Jordan, Utah) earned the assist on the play.

Following a flurry of substitutions by both teams, the Hornets put the game out of reach with three goals over a nine-minute span, sealing the 5-1 contest.

CSU Pueblo (0-3-0) continues its three-match homestand Sunday when they take on Fort Hays State at 1 p.m. at Gonzales Stadium. The Tigers are receiving votes in the latest United Soccer Coaches Poll.
