Box Score 2 COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (April 30, 2021) - The Colorado State University Pueblo softball team picked up two crucial Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference wins at University of Colorado Colorado Springs (UCCS) Friday, winning game one in come-from-behind fashion, 10-8 and coming away with a 9-7 win in game two.
In game one,
Isabel Griego (Jr., Loveland, Colo.) picked up three hits and scored two runs.
Katelynn Ralston (Fr., Colorado Springs, Colo.) and
Sabrina Felix (Sr., Corona, Calif.) both recorded two hits and freshman
Alyssa Caulford (Fullerton, Calif.) hit her second career grand slam homerun to pace the ThunderWolves in the 10-8 win.
Oakleigh Kearby (Fr., Meridian, Idaho) hit her first career homerun at the plate and in the pitcher's circle lasted 3.2 innings and allowed seven runs on eight hits and finished with five strikeouts.
Jacelynn Trujillo (Fr., Pueblo, Colo.) picked up her first win in relief after going 3.1 innings and gave up one run on three hits and she struck out four batters.
In the seventh and the game tied at 8-8, three hits by the Pack including RBI hits from Griego and
Marissa Piatt (Sr., San Luis Obispo, Calif.) carried the Pack to victory.
In the home half, Trujillo retired the Mountain Lions in order and sealed the win.
Game two was scoreless through three innings before the ThunderWolves scored two runs on a single up the middle from Ralston and a fielder's choice groundout by Felix.
In their next at bat in the fifth, Ralston and Felix again scored RBI hits to put the Pack up 5-0.
UCCS responded in their half of the fifth, scoring six runs on six hits including two homers in the frame to take a 6-5 lead.
In the top half of the six, the ThunderWolves scored two more runs on a RBI-double from
Gabby Moreno (Sr., Scottsdale, Ariz.) and a Piatt single through the left side to give the Pack a 7-6 lead.
The next batter Ralston drew a walk with the bases loaded and a sac flyout allowed for two more runs to score and built a 9-6 Pack lead.
In the bottom of the sixth, UCCS scored one run and left the bases loaded before
Taylor Strupp (Jr., San Tan Valley, Ariz.) who had come on in relief during the fifth inning, fanned the Mountain Lion hitter and retired the side.
In the bottom of the seventh, and the Pack up by two runs, a hit by pitch to start the inning resulted in
Jacelynn Trujillo (Fr., Pueblo, Colo.) making an appearance. Trujillo struck out her first batter faced and would allow one walk before ending the game on back-to-back putouts, earning the save.
Strupp picks up the win and improves to 2-4 on the year.
CSU Pueblo (20-16, 17-15 RMAC) will wrap the series with another twin bill scheduled for Saturday at 11 a.m. at Mountain Lion Field.
