Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

O'Sullivan and Zingel lead ThunderWolves against No. 14 Mines

PUEBLO, Colo. (April 3, 2021) - The Colorado State University Pueblo men's soccer team competed in a hard fought match against No. 14 Colorado School of Mines, battling the Orediggers to a 3-3 (2OT) tie Saturday at Art & Lorraine Gonzales Stadium.

Vinzent Zingel (So., Aachen, Germany) tallied one goal and Joe O'Sullivan (Sr., Ocala, Fla.) scored twice, once in each half, and added an assist for the ThunderWolves.

Both Zingel and O'Sullivan finished with a team-high three shots each.

In the match, CSU Pueblo recorded 11 shots including five landing on goal.

The Pack scored the first goal of the game in the 14th minute when Zingel fired a shot from outside the 18-yard box after receiving a pass from O'Sullivan, for his fourth goal of the year.

In the 27', swift footwork by O'Sullivan allowed him to lose his defender and create enough space to fire a shot in the top corner of the net and a two goal lead.

At intermission, both teams had six shots and CSU Pueblo held a 2-1 advantage on corner kick attempts.

The ThunderWolves offense kept the pressure and was rewarded in the 65th minute when O'Sullivan nutmegged his defender and connected a shot to the back of the net for a 3-nil, Pack lead.

Five minutes later, Mines got on the board, converting on a penalty kick. Moments later the potent Orediggers offense scored their second goal and would eventually even the score in the 73rd minute.

The score went unchanged over the final 17 minutes of regulation, sending the match to overtime, a second in a row for the ThunderWolves.

In the first overtime, CSU Pueblo's defense stood tall against four shots. After no score through the first overtime, the Pack and Orediggers entered a second overtime period and both teams made several substitutions and brought fresh legs on to the pitch.

Pack goalkeeper Garret Wild (Jr., Brownsville, Tex.) made seven saves against 21 shots by CSM.

Coach Comments
"We played some fantastic football today, scored 3 top goals with Joe O'Sullivan playing a great game, said Pack Head Coach Oliver Twelvetrees. "We lost control and focus for 4 minutes and conceded three goals that was crucial in the result of the game. But I am confident in this group of players that we can learn from it and develop the ability and decision making to close out games when in pole position as we have been in the last two games."

CSU Pueblo (4-0-2, 2-0-2 RMAC) will wrap the road portion of its schedule Thursday at Adams State. Kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m. at ASU Soccer Field before coming home next Sunday to take on Colorado Christian at 3:30 p.m. in the regular season finale at Art & Lorraine Gonzales Stadium.
