COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (April 28, 2021) – The Colorado State University Pueblo women's lacrosse team lost 12-9 Wednesday at University of Colorado Colorado Springs in a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference contest.

The ThunderWolves (4-8, 2-5 RMAC) outshot the Mountain Lions (8-2, 4-2 RMAC) 34-30 and controlled the draw 18-5, but couldn't capitalize on enough scoring opportunities. The Pack also had eight free position shots to the home team's four. CSU Pueblo had 20 turnovers, while the Mountain Lions had 16. The home team's goalie totaled 19 saves in the game.Â

Caira Lessick (M, Oregon City, Ore.) netted a hat trick on eight total shots with seven that landed on goal. She had three draw controls.Â

"We fought hard the entire game," said CSU Pueblo Head CoachÂ
Monica Potter. "They scored first and we had plenty of chances to start. We had great shots that the goalie saved. This was the best I have seen the team play. They knew what they were fighting for and it was their fuel. I am very proud of them. Now we fight again on Friday."

Emily Eller (A, Keller, Texas) totaled three points, as she had two goals and an assist. Eller also totaled eight draw controls.

Ane Marie Horton (G, Long Beach, Calif.) totaled 13 saves and led the team with four ground balls. She had two caused turnovers, which was also a team best. Â

Despite totaling 14 shots in the first half, seniorÂ
Olivia Tener (M, Boise, Id.) had the only goal through 25 minutes, as she scored with 19:59 left in the half.Â

The ThunderWolves trailed 5-1 with five minutes remaining in the first, but Eller andÂ
Ashley Hendricks (So., A, Hood River, Ore.) netted a goal to put the Pack within two at 5-3.Â

Unfortunately, the Mountain Lions scored with 11 ticks left and led 6-3 at the break.Â

UCCS jumped out early in the second half and led 9-3, but the ThunderWolves went on a five-goal scoring streak in a matter of four minutes to trail 9-8.Â

Eller scored her second goal of the day with 25:31 left to start the run. FreshmanÂ
Kendal Bruderer (A, Georgetown, Texas) scored a minute later to keep things rolling.Â

Nya Duvall (A, Graham, Wash.) scored a free position goal with 23:08 left, then Lessick scored on an assist from freshmanÂ
Baylee Mee (M, Reno, Nev.). Eleven seconds later, Lessick potted another goal, this time on an aid from Eller and the road team was within one at 9-8.Â

Neither team scored until 8:53 left with UCCS scored. CSU Pueblo responded when Lessick hit her hat trick on a player-up goal with 7:20 remaining and again the ThunderWolves were within one at 10-9.Â

The scoring went silent again until UCCS scored with 2:54 left and then put the game away with 24 seconds left to win 12-9.
