Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

ThunderWolves suffer first loss of season 1-0 versus Christian

PUEBLO, Colo. (April 11, 2021) - Colorado State University Pueblo men's soccer suffered its first loss of the season, falling 1-0 against Colorado Christian Sunday at Art & Lorraine Gonzales Stadium.

Prior to the match, the ThunderWolves Coaching Staff and players honored departing senior Tanner Pile (Tempe, Ariz.) in a pregame ceremony.

CSU Pueblo totaled 15 shots in the match versus 3 for Colorado Christian.

In the first half, CSU Pueblo's offense recorded six shots and earned seven corner kicks. Joe O'Sullivan (Sr., Deltona, Fla.) led with two shots in the period.

Playing as the more aggressive team, the ThunderWolves kept the Cougars on their back heels as they pressured and created various chances at the net.

In the second period, the Pack attacked the net and fired a flurry of shots that was fended off by the Cougars goalkeeper.

Christian broke the scoreless affair off a free kick from about 25 yards away from the net on a shot that snuck under the crossbar with 29:31 left in regulation.

CSU Pueblo's next best scoring chance came one minute later when Vinzent Zingel (So., Aachen, Germany) took a free kick shot and sailed it high and left of the net.

Over the last twenty minutes, CSU Pueblo earned two more corners that went unsucessful.

O'Sullivan ended with four shots and two landing on goal. Dominik Huetgens (Jr., Halstenbek, Germany) finished with three shots and two on goal.

Pack goalkeeper Garret Wild (Jr., Brownsville, Tex.) allowed one goal and made one save against three shots from CCU.

Coach Comments
"Very disappointed to lose the game. Would like to give CCU credit for having a game plan and working really hard as a team to achieve it," said ThunderWolves Head Coach Oliver Twelvetrees. "We were wasteful with our possession and didn't make the most of the chances and territorial advantage. However conditions were extremely difficult and certainly the wind made it very difficult to execute in the final third. They (CCU) made the most of their 3 shots."

CSU Pueblo (5-1-2, 3-1-2 RMAC) will have more than a week off as the rest of the RMAC finishes the regular season. The Pack currently sit second in the RMAC will wait and see where they end up in the upcoming six-team RMAC Tournament, set for April 20-25.  Stay tuned to CSU Pueblo Athletics Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram for schedule and postseason updates.
