Pack sweep Mountain Lions

PUEBLO, Colo. (March 26, 2021) – The Colorado State University Pueblo volleyball team posted their fourth straight win and third sweep in the last four matches Friday, as the ThunderWolves defeated University of Colorado Colorado Springs in Massari Arena, 3-0 (25-22, 25-17, 25-17). 

The ThunderWolves (10-3, 8-2 RMAC) totaled 37 kills, while the Mountain Lions (4-8, 4-6 RMAC) had 28 kills and a .030 hitting percentage. The Pack totaled 12 blocks in the match, which was half a block shy of a season high, despite playing just three sets. CSU Pueblo totaled eight service aces. 
 
Leading the block party were seniors Maddy Wisniewski (OH, Highlands Ranch, Colo.) and Payton Stack (OPP, Casper, Wyo.), as they both recorded five block assists and posted a solo block. Jazzy Espinoza (Sr., Cheyenne, Wyo.) got in the mix with four block assists and a solo effort.

Individual Highlights
 
Wisniewski added nine kills to lead the team. She hit .333 on the evening. Espinoza totaled five kills and two aces. Stack also registered five kills. 
 
Junior Hannah Delor (OH, Marysville, Mich.) hit .455, as she posted six kills and added a pair of service aces. 
 
Grace Hern (Jr., Omaha, Neb.) dished out 18 assists, while Grace Jansen (So., South Jordan, Utah) had 12 assists and three digs. 
 
Megan Mattingly (Fr., Phoenix, Ariz.) recorded six kills, four digs, two blocks and two aces. 
 
Summary 
 
CSU Pueblo took the first seven points of the match, but UCCS battled back and the ThunderWolves lead was just one at 14-13. The Mountain Lions continued with their momentum swing and a 4-0 run handed the road team their first lead of the match 20-18. The Pack trailed 21-19 before rattling off five straight points to reach set point, 24-21. After a service error by the ThunderWolves, Espinoza closed the door with a block to give CSU Pueblo the opening set win, 25-22. 
 
The second set saw nine lead changes and eight ties in total, as the two teams went back-and-forth to sit knotted at 17-17. The Pack tied the game with blocks by Stack and Bailey Coombs (So., OPP. Fresno, Calif.) and then the final lead change came with a kill by Mattingly, as the ThunderWolves recorded nine unanswered to win the set 25-17. In the run, CSU Pueblo totaled four kills, a pair of blocks and an ace. 
 
The Pack used the momentum boost to go up 9-4 to start the third set. UCCS was within four at 10-6, but that would be as close as the road team would get, as the ThunderWolves rolled to the set and match win, 25-17.
