PUEBLO, Colo. (March 12, 2021) – The Colorado State University Pueblo baseball team lost twice to Metro State University of Denver Friday. The games were in Pueblo, but due to switching the site from Denver were home games for the Roadrunners.
The ThunderWolves (3-9, 1-7 RMAC) lost 15-5 in game one and 2-1 in the second contest.
"I really like what this club has continued to build off of and I have to find a way to continue to toughen us up and put them in a position of belief and not hope for a break," said CSU Pueblo Head Baseball Coach
Damian Stambersky.
In game one, the Pack scored first, as
Trey Vasquez (Jr., Greeley, Colo.) plated
Logan Gibbons (Sr., Taylorsville, Utah) on a double to left center. Unfortunately, MSU Denver (11-1, 6-1 RMAC) scored 12 in the bottom half of the inning to open a 12-1 lead.
The Pack scored four in the ninth, but would fall 15-5. The Pack outhit the Roadrunners 8-6 in the game, but the combination of 10 walks and hit batters with a pair of errors allowed MSU Denver to capitalize in the victory.
Game two was all about pitching, as the two teams allowed a total of nine hits. The Roadrunners scored first in the third, but the Pack responded in the top of the fourth and plated a run to knot the game 1-1.
The final tally of the game from the Roadrunners came on a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the fifth. CSU Pueblo loaded the bases in the top of the sixth before MSU Denver could register an out, but the ThunderWolves wouldn't be able to capitalize and would fall 2-1.
Gibbons pitched four innings and allowed one earned run on two hits with four strikeouts.
Next up, the ThunderWolves head out on the road to battle Colorado School of Mines, March 19-21.
