ThunderWolves split Opening Day doubleheader

PUEBLO, Colo. (February 20, 2021) - Colorado State University Pueblo softball earned a split of a doubleheader Saturday to begin the 2021 campaign. The Pack picked up the first win of the season in a 8-4 victory over Adams State. In the first game of the day, a late game rally versus Bethany College (KS) fell short in a 10-9 defeat.

In the two games, the ThunderWolves gathered 26 hits, including first home runs of the season hit by Gabby Moreno (Grad., Scottsdale, Ariz.) and Hannah Hackney (Jr., Erie, Colo.).

Moreno, along with leadoff hitter Isabel Griego (Jr., Loveland, Colo.) both collected five hits and scored five runs. Moreno added six RBIs on the day.

In the first game of the season against Bethany, CSU Pueblo rallied late, scoring seven runs in the final two frames. Hackney helped the Pack to get within a run, hitting a two-run double to right centerfield before a groundout ended the game by a score of 10-9.

Against Adams State, a pair of freshmen, Katelynn Ralston (Fr., Colorado Springs, Colo.) and Sophia Lishner (Fr., Gilbert, Ariz.) each made their collegiate debuts in the circle. The duo scattered ten hits and allowed four runs. Ralston went two innings and allowed three runs and one strikeout.

Lishner got her first call to the pitcher's circle in the third inning and earned the win, allowing one run and she fanned one ASU batter.

CSU Pueblo (1-1) will finish the weekend with two more games Sunday. The Pack will first take on Bethany at 1 p.m. and will battle Adams State, scheduled for a 3 p.m. first pitch at Rawlings Sotball Complex.
