Pack Triumphs Over Adams State In Home Opener

PUEBLO, Colo. (February 13, 2020) -  Colorado State University Pueblo Volleyball conquered Adams State University in a three-set sweep (25-12, 25-15, 25-17) Saturday in their home opener at Massari Arena.
 
The Pack improved to 2-1 on the season. Adams State fell to 0-4 The ThunderWolves outhit the Grizzlies .320 to .056.
 
Coach Albers Quote:
"It was great to be back on the floor and I thought our girls came out on fire," said Colorado State University Pueblo Volleyball Head Coach Austin Albers. "We can certainly be cleaner, but we got to mix everybody in. Everybody got on the floor and whenever that happens. It's always good."
 
Individual Highlights:
Jazzy Espinoza (Jr., Cheyenne, Wyo.) dominated in all three phases of the game. Espinoza knocked down a match-high 11 kills. She hit .588 for the match. Espinoza also dropped in four service aces. Espinoza tallied five blocks including two solo rejections.
 
Hannah Delor (Jr, Marysville, Mich.) and Payton Stack (Sr., Casper Wyo.) smacked nine kills. Delor added seven digs. Stack swatted three blocks. Stack hit .350, while Delor hit .333.
 
Grace Hern (Jr., Omaha, Neb.) dished out 18 assists. Grace Jansen (So.,  South Jordan, Utah) contributed 10 assists, while freshman Jessica Amend (Erie, Colo.) collected eight assists.
 
Elaine Thibadeau (Jr., Monument, Colo.) led the ThunderWolves with 12 digs. Kyle Meltzer (Sr., Fort Collins, Colo.) chipped in nine digs.
 
Four ThunderWolves made their debuts as Coach Albers emptied his bench. Gabrielle Collins (Fr., Katy, Texas) earned her first two kills and three blocks in a ThunderWolf uniform. Megan Mattingly (Fr., Phoenix, Ariz.) landed three digs in her debut.
 
Set Summaries:
Set 1: The ThunderWolves took charge early with a five-point run that made it 9-3. Another 4-0 run allowed the Pack to make it a double-digit lead at 19-8. From there, the Pack rolled to a 25-12 win in set one. The ThunderWolves hit .571 in set one.
 
Set 2: The Grizzlies used a 4-0 run to jump n front 7-6. The Pack answered with a 3-0 run of its own. After the Grizzlies tied it, the Pack used another 3-0 run to take the lead for good. The ThunderWolves scored five of the last six points to close the Grizzlies out 25-15.
 
Set 3: A four-point swing enabled to the Pack to take a 6-2 lead. A 5-0 run propelled the Pack to an 18-10 advantage. The Grizzlies clawed back within five at 22-17. The Pack scored the final three points of the match to complete the sweep.  Their last two points came on back-to-back blocks by Espinoza.
 
Notes:
Saturday's match was the fourth time during Albers' tenure that the Pack hit over .300.
 
The Pack had nine blocks compared to two for the Grizzlies. They held a 7-1 advantage in aces.
 
Up Next:
The Pack will hit the road for a scheduled double-header Saturday Feb. 20.  They will face Metropolitan State University Denver at 11 a.m. and Colorado Christian University at 2 p.m. in Denver.
