SALT LAKE CITY (Dec. 16, 2021) – The No. 23 Colorado State University Pueblo women's basketball team (8-2, 4-0) was able to hold off strong runs by the Westminster College Griffins Thursday night, as the ThunderWolves turned in a 65-54 win for another double-digit Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) victory.
Â
Ro Dominguez set the tone for the night and hit back-to-back 3-pointers to kick-off the Pack's offensive efforts. The Griffins refused to back down from the strong offensive runs by the ThunderWolves and took the quarter down to the wire.Â
Â
After a Dominguez layup with only seconds to go, the Pack took. A 15-14 advantage after a quarter of play.
Â
Torie Bass hit a 3-pointer to start the second quarter and gave the Pack some momentum moving forward. Following the three, the Pack went on a dominant 16-2 run off multipleÂ
JaNaiya Davis 3-pointers and field goals from four different ThunderWolves.
Â
The 16-2 run allowed CSU Pueblo to take a commanding 34-19 lead the halftime break. The Pack were able to limit the Griffins to just five points in the second quarter while dropping nearly 20 in their favor.
Â
Headed out of the break, the Pack wanted to put the game away early. CSU Pueblo outscored Westminster 11-6 in the opening five minutes thanks to three Dominguez 3-pointers. The lead swelled to 20 points with over four minutes remaining in the third, but the Griffins refused to go down without a fight.
Â
After a 16-0 run to close out the quarter by Westminster, the Pack only held a six-point lead of 45-39 after the third.
Â
The Pack were looking to close out the Griffins in the fourth and snuff out the strong momentum gained late in the third quarter.
Â
AÂ
JaNaiya Davis layup was able to do just that and helped expand the lead back to double-digits. Westminster continued to jump back into contention within seven or eight points, but the Pack were able to respond each time.
Â
Davis hit back-to-back 3-pointers with just over five minutes remaining to keep the Griffins out of reach.
Â
With 2:09 remaining, the Griffins cut it back to eight points but, on script for the rest of the season, a clutchÂ
Jazzy Hughes 3-pointer put the hosts out of contention with her dagger.
Â
Hughes and Davis nailed their free throws down the stretch and clinched the Thunderwolves' fourth-straight RMAC victory 65-54.Â
Â

The guard added three assists and a steal in 27 minutes on Thursday night. The 18 points, six field goals made, and three assists all mark season-highs for the transfer guard.
Â
Davis came in clutch for the Pack after she dropped 16 points thanks to a perfect 4-4 shooting from behind the arch. The senior also tacked on five rebounds and a couple of assists.
Â
