ThunderWolves earn 2-0 victory at No. 12 Mines; advance to RMAC Championship Saturday at Colorado Mesa

GOLDEN, Colo. (November 7, 2021) - For a second time this season, the Colorado State University Pueblo men's soccer team went into Colorado School of Mines' Stermole Stadium and came away with a victory, winning 2-0 against the No. 12 Orediggers Sunday in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Tournament Semifinal round.

With the win, the ThunderWolves advance to Saturday's RMAC Championship at Colorado Mesa. CMU defeated Regis 3-0 on the other side of the bracket.

The Pack's Vinzent Zingel (So., Aachen, Germany) scored both goals in the win. The first goal came during the first minute of play as the ThunderWolves sent in a ball and Zingel was able to finish for the one goal lead.

The ThunderWolves had to play a man down after a red card was issued against them during the 42nd minute.

In the match, CSU Pueblo totaled 13 shots including seven landing on goal and Mines recorded 17 shots and four on goal.

Zingel led all players with five shots and Fernando Herrera (So., Queretaro, Mexico) tallied three shots.

Pack goalkeeper Garret Wild (Jr., Brownsville, Tex.) earned another clean sheet and made four saves.

ThunderWolves Head Coach Oliver Twelvetrees had high praise for his team's effort on the pitch. "Unbelievable effort from this team. We showed the heart of champions and got what we deserved. Performances across the back line from Emil Joensson (Fr., Kristianstad, Sweden), Martin Cardenas (Jr., Tucson, Ariz.), Sam Birch (Fr., Wigan, England), Lamar Bynum (Fr., Albuquerque, NM) and Garret were next level."

Twelvetrees added, "We have overcome adversity and came together as a team. To take this team to the RMAC Final that is loaded with seniors is going to be special and we can't wait to get up to Grand Junction to compete for it."

CSU Pueblo (14-4-2) will travel and play at Colorado Mesa in the RMAC Championship on Saturday. Kickoff is set for 5 p.m. at the Mavericks' Unity Field.
