Offensive struggles haunt ThunderWolves in 61-39 loss to Texas A&M International

PUEBLO, Colo. (Nov. 26, 2021) – The ThunderWolves never found an offensive rhythm in 61-39 loss to Texas A&M International on Friday night at Massari Arena.
 
Meekness Payne (Jr., Phoenix, Ariz.) connected on a 3-ball early in the first half that gave the ThunderWolves their only lead of the game at 7-5 with 15:12 remaining in the first half. Two missed shots and two turnovers from the Pack gave the Dustdevils room for a 5-0 run over a three-minute span that gave TAMIU a 10-7 lead.
 
The Dustdevils connected on their next three 3-pointers and held the ThunderWolves to seven points to extend their lead to 26-12 with six minutes to play int he half. TAMIU went into the break 2ith a 35-20 lead over the Pack after nailing five 3-pointers and going 6 of 7 from the free-throw line. The Pack were held to 8-28 shooting on the half which included 1 of 8 from deep and 3 of 7 from the charity stripe.
 
The ThunderWolves opened the half with an 8-0 run as the Pack held the Dustdevils scoreless for the first four minutes of the second half. Back-to-back buckets from Micah Lamberth (Fr., Colorado Springs, Colo.) followed by a mid-range jumper from Lian Ramiro (Fr., Aurora, Colo.) cut the deficit to 7 with 16 minutes to play in the ball game.
 
The Pack kept within striking distance as the defense held the Dustdevils scoreless again for another six minutes and cut the lead down to 38-32 with 11 minutes remaining in the half before the cold streak started.
 
The Dustdevils held the Pack to 1 of 7 shooting and 3 turnovers over the next nine minutes while scoring 23 points of their own to take a 61-39 win over the ThunderWolves.
 
Elijah Moleon (Jr., Killeen, Tex.) registered his third double-double of the season with 10 points and 12 rebounds while adding a block. Lamberth finished with 8 points and 2 steals and Ross Young (Sr., Hyattsville, Md.) added 7 points and 6 rebounds.
 
The ThunderWolves will be back in action tomorrow night to finish off the Thanksgiving Classic at 7 pm against Kansas Christian.
