ThunderWolves play Westminster to 1-1 draw

PUEBLO, Colo. (October 3, 2021) - In a rematch of the 2021 Spring RMAC Tournament Final, the Colorado State University Pueblo women's soccer team played Westminster College to a 1-1 (2OT) draw Sunday at Art & Lorraine Gonzales Stadium.

The Pack got a late-game goal from Faith Meredith (Jr., Cheyenne, Wyo.) with four minutes left in regulation and evened the score. It is the second goal of the weekend for Meredith.

After giving up a goal in the 25th minute on a shot from 30 yards out, the ThunderWolves picked up the intensity and fought throughout the rest of the first half. CSU Pueblo recorded four shots in the period and three landed on frame.

In the second half, CSU Pueblo continued to battle at midfield and did well in protecting the ball from the Griffins strong attack.

With minutes left in regulation, Cara Siegel (Sr., Pueblo, Colo.) took the ball down the line and dished the ball in to Meredith who finished with a perfectly placed shot past the reach of the goalkeeper.

CSU Pueblo's Madison Jepperson (Sr., Cottonwood Heights, Utah) led the team with four shots and Meredith and Litzy Serna (Sr., West Jordan, Utah) both ended with three shots.

In her second straight outing at the net, Breanna Encinas (Fr., Firestone, Colo.) made ten saves against 20 shots from the Griffins.

"The team put together a pair of gritty performances this weekend against two strong RMAC opponents," said ThunderWolves Head Coach Sierra Cardenas. "Our offense was excellent today and showed a lot of improvement in the attacking third. Westminster has a dangerous attack, and they send a lot of numbers forward and we did well in executing the game plan to keep them at bay."

"Faith has been playing with a lot of confidence and I'm excited for her to be finding her groove."

CSU Pueblo (4-4-1, 3-0-1 RMAC) remains at home next week and hosts Black Hills State on Friday at 6 p.m. and face off against MSU Denver Sunday at 1 p.m., both matches at Gonzales Stadium.
