No. 19 Pack earns another clean sheet in 2-0 win over Westminster

PUEBLO, Colo. (October 3, 2021) - No. 19 Colorado State University Pueblo men's soccer earned another clean sheet after defeating Westminster College 2-0 Sunday at Art & Lorraine Gonzales Stadium.

CSU Pueblo received scores from Nazar Deputat (Sr., Ocala, Fla.) and Carlos Sanchis (Grad., Madrid, Spain), ending the weekend with a 1-1 record to start Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play.

The ThunderWolves' Austin Gaillard (R-So., Peoria, Ariz.) led all players with three shots.

The Pack took the lead in the 16th minute when Mahir Bingoel 's (Fr., Hanover, Germany) served in a ball from the left side in to the box, allowing Deputat to settle the ball and fire a shot into the lower third of the net. It is the second goal of the season for Deputat.

Holding the 1-0 lead at intermission, CSU Pueblo recorded ten shots in the first half and held Westminster to one shot in the half. The Pack also recorded five corners in the first period.

"Great performance from the lads in the first half today," said CSU Pueblo Head Coach Oliver Twelvetrees. "We came out with the right mentality and should have put the game away."

During the second half, the ThunderWolves defense stepped up in a big way and fended off a strong offensive attack by the Griffins.

With less than ten minutes left in the match, the ThunderWolves drove the ball down field and Oliver Eccles (R-So., Haslemere, Surrey, England) passed ahead to Sanchis who finished with a one-timer shot for his first goal as a member of the Pack.

Pack goalkeeper Garret Wild (Jr., Brownsville, Tex.) made two saves at the net against seven shots by Westminster.

"Carlos scored a phenonenal goal and we showed our defensive strength with Garret in particular excelling in goal for another clean sheet," Twelvetrees added.

CSU Pueblo (8-2-0, 1-1-0 RMAC) will go on the road and play a pair of RMAC matches on Thursday at South Dakota Mines and will have a rematch on Sunday at Regis.
