Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Pack run past Cowgirls in 7-2 victory

PUEBLO, Colo. (October 24, 2021) - The Colorado State University Pueblo women's soccer team ran past New Mexico Highlands and earned a 7-2 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference victory Sunday on Senior Day at Art & Lorraine Gonzales Stadium.

CSU Pueblo received its plethora of goals from seven different players. Cara Siegel (Sr., Pueblo, Colo.), Madison Jepperson (Sr., Cottonwood Heights, Utah) and Katie Bean (R-So., Bothell, Wash.) all found the back of the net during the first half.

Faith Meredith (Jr., Cheyenne, Wyo.), Lainee Vujchich (Fr., Pueblo, Colo.), Lindsay Thornock (Sr., Colorado Springs, Colo.) and Mikayla Henson (Fr., Pueblo, Colo.) each provided the goals in the second half to propel the Pack.

The seven goals are the most by the Pack since the 2018 season when they put up seven against Adams State, also a 7-2 Pack win.

Six of the goals earned assists on the respective play, the highest output of the season.

"I'm pleased with the collective effort from the team today," said CSU Pueblo Head Coach Sierra Cardenas. "To have 7 different goal scorers is an outstanding example of this group's commitment to our collective success."

CSU Pueblo totaled 15 shots including nine in the first half to go along with four corner kicks and 12 shots landing on goal.

Defensively, the Pack played strong and did not allow NMHU a shot throughout the entire first half and the Cowgirls first shot didn't come until the 73rd minute.

At goalkeeper, the reliable duo of Nicole Genis (R-So., San Jose, Costa Rica) and Breanna Encinas (Fr., Firestone, Colo.) both played one half each. Genis faced zero shots and Encinas made two saves and allowed two goals late in the match.

Prior to the match six student-athletes were honored as they will finish their playing careers at the end of the season. The players celebrated were Jepperson, Brooklyn Mack (Sr., Manitou Springs, Colo.), Alyssa Mireles (Sr., Las Vegas, Nev.), Litzy Serna (Sr., West Jordan, Utah), Siegel and Thornock.

"What a day to honor the careers of six outstanding seniors. It was a packed weekend with homecoming and parent's weekend, and we are excited to have come away with a spot claimed in the RMAC Tournament," Cardenas added.

"The team is working hard and connecting well. We are in a great spot headed into the final stretch of RMAC play this coming week, and I cannot wait to see what we can achieve together."

CSU Pueblo (8-5-1, 7-1-1 RMAC) goes on the road for the final three games of the regular season. The Pack will battle Colorado Christian Thursday at 1 p.m. and will finish the week on Sunday at ranked-Colorado School of Mines, starting at 12 p.m.
