PUEBLO, Colo. (October 22, 2021) – The Colorado State University Pueblo volleyball team started homecoming weekend off with a 3-0 straight set win over Westminster on Friday night.
The ThunderWolves (15-4, 9-2 RMAC) jumped all over the Griffins (4-16, 2-9 RMAC) right from the start as
Hannah Delor (Jr., Marysville, Mich.) connected on two straight service aces followed by a kill from
Payton Stack (Sr., Casper, Wyo.) to give the Pack a 5-2 lead early in the first set.
Later in the set, the ThunderWolves found themselves down 14-15 as
Grace Hern (Jr., Omaha, Neb.) connected with Stack in the middle to spark a 4-0 run for the Pack. The ThunderWolves would hold that lead throughout the first set to come up with a 25-23 win.
The Griffins had no answer for the Pack offense in set two, as the squad jumped out to a 6-1 advantage. The overpowering defense for the Pack caused frustration throughout the match for the Westminster pins as the ThunderWolves held the Griffins to a .000 hitting percentage. The ThunderWolves took set two with ease by a score of 25-13.
However, Westminster didn't give up that easy. Down 2-0, the Griffins battled in set three, but the Pack had different plans.
Kasey Jahnke (So., Glendale, Ariz.) registered four of her ten kills in the third set as the ThunderWolves tallied 19 kills to finish off the sweep with a 25-20 win.
The ThunderWolves were led by
Hannah Delor and
Jazzy Espinoza (Jr., Cheyenne, Wyo.) who both registered 11 kills while Jahnke added another 10 of her own.
Elaine Thibadeau (Jr., Monument, Colo.) continues her defensive run after tallying a game-high 14 digs while Hern added 26 assists.
The Pack will be back in action tomorrow night as the team will host Colorado Mesa at 7 pm at Massari Arena.
