PUEBLO, Colo. (October 15, 2021) – The Colorado State University Pueblo volleyball team dominated the Skyhawks in a three-set victory (25-20, 25-13, 25-8) on Friday night at Massari Arena.
The ThunderWolves (13-4, 7-2 RMAC) showed why the team leads the conference in blocks per set (2.33) and opposing teams hitting percentage (0.150), holding the Skyhawks (3-10, 3-6 RMAC) to 20 kills and 20 errors for a .000 hitting percentage on the match while also recording 70 digs as a team in the three sets.
A service ace from
Elaine Thibadeau (Jr., Monument, Colo.) early in the first set started a that gave the Pack a 6-2 lead as three more service aces from
Hannah Delor (Jr., Marysville, Mich.) later in the set saw the ThunderWolves take a commanding 18-11 lead.
Two kills, an ace, and an attacking error from
Megan Mattingly (Fr., Phoenix, Ariz.) sparked a late run by the Skyhawks, but a hitting error from Fort Lewis College Joviana Romero gave the Pack a 25-20 win in set one.
A strong start from both teams in the second set saw the game go back-and-forth, before a kill from
Josey Nunn (Fr., Kingwood, Tex.) triggered a 5-0 run for the Thunderwolves and gave them a 13-8 lead and forced the Skyhawks to call timeout.
The Skyhawks never gained momentum in the second set as the Pack again went on another 9-1 run and went on to win the second set 25-13. The Pack held FLC to a -.068 hitting percentage on the set.
The ThunderWolves kept the energy from the second set to jump to an early 10-2 advantage before two aces from Mattingly saw the Pack go up 18-7. The Skyhawks never had an answer for the lethal Pack serve as the ThunderWolves tallied six of the teams twelve service aces in the third set and cruised to a 25-8 victory.
Payton Stack (Sr., Casper, Wyo.) led the Pack with eight kills and two blocks while Delor added five kills and a team-high four aces. Stack,
Kasey Jahnke (So., Glendae, Ariz.), and Nunn recorded two blocks a piece while Thibadeau tallied a game-high 21 digs and a couple of aces.
The Pack will be back in action tomorrow night as the squad hosts Western Colorado at 4 pm at Massari Arena.
