DENVER, Colo. (October 14, 2021) - Colorado State University Pueblo women's soccer dropped its first Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference match of the season following a 2-1 loss at Regis, Thursday at Regis Match Pitch.
CSU Pueblo freshman
Lainee Vujcich (Pueblo, Colo.) scored her third goal of the season during the 82nd minute for the Pack.
For the match, Vujcich totaled five shots and
Madison Jepperson (Sr., Cottonwood Heights, Utah) recorded three shots, all of the shots landed on goal.
The Pack surrendered two goals in the first half. The first score came off the only corner kick try from Regis in the match. The home team added the second goal during the 20th minute from a penalty kick that Regis was able to convert.
"We started the game a bit slow in the first half, which got us into a hole giving up an early goal off a corner, then another shortly after off a penalty kick," said CSU Pueblo Head Coach
Sierra Cardenas.
Through the first half, both teams recorded double-digit shots and one corner kick.
During the final period, CSU Pueblo kept its intensity and created numerous scoring chances.
Pack goalkeeper
Nicole Genis (So., San Jose, Costa Rica) played full time and made four saves against 21 shots from Regis.
Cardenas added, "I am pleased with our response coming into the second half with more intensity and desire, allowing us to pick up a goal to keep the game close. I'm also proud of Lainee for finding the net for us today. She has added a ton to our attack as a freshman this season and she's got a bright future ahead."
CSU Pueblo (6-5-1, 5-1-1 RMAC) will have some time off before returning to the pitch. The Pack will close their home portion of the regular season with a pair of matches on Oct. 22 versus Adams State and Oct. 24 against New Mexico Highlands.
