PUEBLO, Colo. (October 1, 2021) - The Colorado State University Pueblo women's soccer team remained unbeaten in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play after beating Colorado Mesa 1-0 behind a goal from
Faith Meredith (Jr., Cheyenne, Wyo.) in the 84th minute in front of a great crowd at Art & Lorraine Gonzales Stadium.
Meredith connected on her first goal of the season after the Pack drove the ball up the field and a header flick-type pass by
Madison Jepperson (Sr., Cottonwood Heights, Utah) found Meredith who finished with a shot in to the lower left corner of the net, putting the Pack ahead with about six minutes left in regulation.
For most of the match, the ThunderWolves were in their own territory and the solid play at midfield and by the Pack's back line helped to keep Colorado Mesa at bay.
Despite being out shot by a 12-7 clip, CSU Pueblo never let up and in front of the large crowd, fed off that energy and matched the physicality put out from CMU.
Litzy Serna (Sr., West Jordan, Utah),
Lainee Vujcich (Fr., Pueblo, Colo.) and Jepperson all recorded two shots for the Pack.
Through the first half, CSU Pueblo led in shots by a 5-4 mark.
Pack goalkeeper
Breanna Encinas (Fr., Firestone, Colo.) made five big saves at critical moments of the game to help keep the Mavericks scoreless.
In the match, CMU earned seven corners against one for the Pack.
CSU Pueblo (4-4-0, 3-0-0 RMAC) will return to the pitch on Sunday against Westminster in a rematch of the Spring RMAC Tournament Final. Kickoff against the Griffins is slated for 12 p.m. at Gonzales Stadium.
