CHADRON, Neb. (March 7, 2020) - The Colorado State University-Pueblo softball team completed day one at Chadron State, falling 4-3 in the series opener and dropping a 9-1 (6 inn.) decision in game two Saturday at CSC Softball Field.
On the day,
Isabel Griego (So., Loveland, Colo.) collected a team high three hits.
In the opener CSU-Pueblo jumped ahead early, scoring two runs in the first inning on a two-RBI double by
Samantha Riesen (Sr., Independence, Calif.).
Riesen handled duties inside the pitcher's circle, throwing a complete game, striking out four Eagles and allowed four runs.
The Pack added a run in the fourth, taking advantage of a defensive miscue by CSC.
Alyssa McWilliams (So., Windsor, Colo.) registered a two-hit performance for the Pack.
In game two, Chadron tagged Pack starting pitcher
Taylor Strupp (So., San Tan Valley, Ariz.) for nine runs, four earned to go with four strikeouts.
The ThunderWolves were limited to three hits in the game with Torres,
Emma Flynn (So., Longmont, Colo.), and
Melissa Torrez (So., Buena Park, Calif.) each getting a hit.
The Pack avoided the shutout in the fourth inning.
Marissa Piatt (Jr., San Luis Obispo, Calif.) scored on a passed ball.
CSU-Pueblo (1-19, 1-9 RMAC) will finish the series with another doubleheader Sunday. First pitch is set for 11 a.m. from CSC Softball Field.
