CHADRON, Neb. (March 8, 2020 - The Colorado State University-Pueblo softball team earned a split on the last day of a four-game set at Chadron State, Sunday. The Pack won the first game, 2-1 behind a strong pitching performance. In the series finale, a 7th inning rally fell short for the Pack in a 7-6 loss.
On the day,
Kaitlyn Glaze (Jr., Erie, Colo.) and
Isabel Griego (So., Loveland, Colo.) each recorded four hits. Glaze tallied a triple and scored two runs in the two games.
CSU-Pueblo outhit Chadron State in both contests.
In the first game, Pack pitcher
Hannah Anderson (Sr., Spokane, Wash.) had strong performance in the circle. She tossed a complete game, scattered six hits and allowed one run and fanned four CSC batters.
The Pack scored the game's first run in the second frame. Glaze singled to left field and a defensive error allowed the run to score.
Chadron State evened the score in their half of the third.
The Pack scored the go-ahead run in the sixth inning on a RBI-single by
Alyssa McWilliams (So., Windsor, Colo.).
Clinging to the 2-1 lead, Anderson gave up two hits in the sixth inning and would slam the door, retiring CSC in order during the seventh to come away with the victory.
In the series finale, Chadron State scored seven runs in the first two innings. CSU-Pueblo chipped away at the lead, scoring their first run on a RBI-single from
Marissa Piatt (Jr., San Luis Obispo, Calif.) with two outs in the third.
The Pack added three more runs in their next at bat, scoring on four singles in the frame.
Gabby Moreno (Sr., Scottsdale, Ariz.) and
Melissa Torrez (So., Buena Park, Calif.) each picked up RBI hits to cut the lead to 7-4.
After a scoreless sixth, the Pack plated two more runs in their last at bat on a RBI-triple by Glaze and RBI-single from McWilliams. With the tying run on base, CSC pitching retired the final two batters and sealed the 7-6 win.
CSU-Pueblo (2-20, 2-10 RMAC) returns home next week and will host University of Colorado Colorado Springs in a four-game RMAC series at Rawlings Softball Complex.
