PUEBLO, Colo. (March 6, 2020) – Colorado State University-Pueblo Baseball kicked off Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play with a 9-4 victory over Metro State University Denver Friday at Rawlings Field.
Reggie Williams (So., Castle Rock, Colo.) swatted four hits in four trips to the dish. Williams drove in three runs He also walked to reach base five times. Williams also scored on a single that resulted in a three base error that resulted in two more runs for the Pack.
Cody Beck (Jr., Brighton, Colo.) finished 1-for-3 with two RBIs. Beck also scored a run and reached on a walk.
Mike Gonzalez (Jr., Los Angeles, Calif.) scored two runs. He finished 1-for-3 with a walk.
JC Hatch (Sr., Corona, Calif.) picked up the win for the Pack to move to 3-0 on the season. Hatch tossed 2.2 innings, striking out five Roadrunners.
Johnathan Ramirez (R-Jr., Henderson, Colo.) picked up his first save. Ramirez struck out two Roadrunners in 1.2 scoreless innings of relief.
Tim McIntyre (Jr., Highlands Ranch, Colo.) started the game for the Pack. He took a no-decision after 4.2 innings. McIntyre struck out eight batters, while giving up three runs.
After McIntyre struck out the side in the top of first, the Pack put up two runs in the bottom half of the inning. Williams bashed the first of his four singles. Gonzalez and
DeVaughn Gales (Jr., Magnolia, Ark.) scored to take a 2-0 lead.
Gales pushed the Pack's lead to three in the bottom of the second. He swatted a single that drove in
Stone Romero (Sr., Albuquerque, N.M.).
The Roadrunners tied it with a three-run fourth. They threatened to take the lead in the fifth, but Hatch entered and stranded a runner at third base to keep the game tied in the bottom of the fifth.
Williams put the Pack back in front in the bottom of the fifth. He drove in Gonzalez with a single to make it 4-3.
The Pack busted the game open with a five-run seventh.
Aidan Welch (Jr., Seattle, Wash.) singled. Williams hit a single of his own that snuck under the center fielder's glove and rolled all the way to the wall. Both Welch and Williams scored on the play to make it 6-3.
Billy Reyes (R-Sr., Yucaipa, Calif.) followed with a double, the Pack's lone extra base hit of the game. Beck knocked in Reyes and pinch runner
Zac Hanenberg (So., Canon City, Colo.) to make it 8-3.
Easton Adler (Sr., Mead, Colo.) chased home Beck with a base knock that put the Pack up by six.
The Roadrunners threatened in the eighth. They scored a run and loaded the bases. Ramirez enter the game and got out of the jam with a double play ball. He shut down MSU Denver in the ninth to clinch a 9-4 win for the Pack.
The win also moved the Pack to 9-4 one the season. The Roadrunners fell to 5-10.
This series between the Pack and Roadrunners will continue Saturday with a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m.
