ThunderWolves hit the road for the first time in 2020

PUEBLO, Colo. (March 5, 2020) – The Colorado State University-Pueblo women's lacrosse team travels to No. 8 University of Indianapolis March 6 and will battle McKendree University March 8 in a neutral site game. Both contests are scheduled to take place in Indianapolis, Indiana. Friday's contest is slated for a 5 p.m. MT start, while the Sunday contest is scheduled for 9 a.m. MT.  
 
THE PACK
 
CSU-Pueblo is 0-2 to start the season with losses to Franklin Pierce (13-7) and Davenport (17-11). Junior Emily Eller has rifled in three goals in each game to lead the team with six. Her 3.0 goals per game are good for second in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference this season. She also leads the team with nine draw controls. 
 
Freshman Caira Lessick leads the team with nine ground balls, while senior Morgan Monaghan owns a team-best eight caused turnovers. 
 
Senior goalie Ane Marie Horton leads NCAA Division II with 17.0 saves per game and has a .531 save percentage that is good for second in the conference. 
 
Junior Olivia Tener grabbed the team's first RMAC Offensive Player of the Week honor of the season, as she netted three goals and added an assist in the loss to Davenport. 
 
The Pack battled in the second half of the 17-11 loss to Davenport, but a large halftime deficit proved to be costly for the ThunderWolves in the nonconference setback. 
 
The second half score was 8-8 and the Panthers (3-1) only had a 9-8 advantage on the draw in the final 30 minutes, as the Pack (0-2) netted three woman-up goals. CSU-Pueblo won the last 10 minutes of the first half and first 20 minutes of the second by a score of 7-4. It was the first 20 minutes that doomed the home team, as the ThunderWolves fell behind 9-2 in that stretch. 
 
In the end, the Pack totaled 30 ground balls to DU's 29. The ThunderWolves scored four woman-up goals. 
 
Tener netted a hat trick and added an assist to lead the Pack's offensive attack. She also picked up two ground balls and added a draw control and a caused a turnover. 
 
Eller posted her second straight game with three goals. She also led the team with seven draw controls and added three ground balls with three caused turnovers. 
 
Freshman Gracie Anderson not only produced her first collegiate goal, but finished the game with two goals on two shots on frame off the bench. Lessick also registered her first collegiate goal and two points in the game. She had a goal and an assist, while also leading the team with five ground balls. 
 
Horton collected 17 saves for the second straight game, as she faced 34 shots on goal.
 
SCOUTING UINDY
 
UIndy is 6-0 and ranks No. 8 in the latest national poll. The Greyhounds are 4-0 at home, which includes their last contest, an 18-5 win March 3 against Notre Dame. UIndy has wins against then-No. 8 Florida Southern (15-14 in overtime) and then-No. 19 Grand Valley (14-11). The Greyhounds were picked to finish second in the Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC). 
 
Abigail Lagos has 24 goals (T-2nd in D2) and nine assists to lead the Greyhounds with 33 points. Lauryn Hardoy adds 21 goals (T-6th in D2) and six assists (27 points), while Grace Gunnerson (12G, 12A) and Destinie Katz (10G, 14A) each have 24 points. Peyton Romig owns 68 draw controls, 11 ground balls and 10 caused turnovers. Her 11.33 draw controls per game is good for first in Division II. Goalie Cassidy King is 6-0 with a .438 save percentage. 
 
SCOUTING MCKENDREE
 
McKendree is 2-2 on the season. After starting 2-0, the Bearcats have lost two straight. The team lost 20-9 to Grand Valley State March 1 and to Findlay 12-11 March 4. The Bearcats were picked to finish fourth in the GLVC preseason poll. 
 
Rylee Skachenko leads the team with 13 goals and adds three assists for 16 points. She adds a team-best 12 ground balls per game. Sarah Hardin has netted 11 goals and added a team-high 22 draw controls. Goalie Ciara Andrews has a .419 saves percentage and 13.0 goals against average. She owns a team-high seven caused turnovers.

The ThunderWolves host Ashland University March 10 beginning at 4 p.m. at Art and Lorraine Gonzales Stadium.
