PUEBLO, Colo. (February 24, 2020) – Colorado State University-Pueblo Athletics has announced that it will begin upgrades in summer of 2020 on the Rawlings Sports Complex that currently houses both the Pack Baseball and Softball teams.

"During our strategic planning process, it became evident that upgrades were needed at the Rawlings Sports Complex," said Director of Athletics Paul Plinske. "We are committed to providing our student-athletes with the best venues possible and are grateful for the support provided by many local donors who value Pack Athletics. Our two-phase process will be exciting to watch. Its impact will be instant and dramatic."

This entire project will cost approximately $3.3 million. All money raised for this project came from private donations and will be used in two phases to complete this project.

"We are extremely grateful for the donations from all the generous donors who have helped make these renovations a reality," said Head Softball Coach Christie Koschke.  "Dr. Paul Plinske has a vision for CSU Pueblo athletics and this allows us to be competitive at a national level."

In the first phase, Pack Athletics will address the immediate facility needs, including field conditions, amenities and aesthetics. Phase one of the Rawlings Sports Complex renovation project will begin in May 2020 and will be completed by the fall. This phase will cost approximately $1.6 million.

Phase II Enhancement Plans

Phase two will include the building of a multi-use indoor training center for both baseball and softball. This venue will provide year-round training for Pack student-athletes, Pueblo community members and other user groups. The design team is analyzing locker rooms, meeting room and athletic training spaces along with coaches offices in order to determine the best use of space and funding. Work will begin in 2020 and conclude by 2021.

"The Indoor Training Facility will give all of our players the opportunity to enhance their skill set all year around," Sanchez said.  "We are excited for our next recruiting class to have one of the best complexes in the country for Division II Baseball."
